The 'Smurfs' Cast Singing TV Theme Songs Is Adorable

by Anna Klassen

Smurfs, the small blue creatures adorned in white beanies and oversized-white shoes, have spawned a handful of television series and film adaptations since they first incepted as a Beglian comicstrip in 1958. Most recently, the adorable lil' guys have been brought to life by Sony pictures in a trilogy of films that began in 2011, and boasted a voice cast of Katy Perry, Neil Patrick Harris, and Alan Cumming. In 2017, the Smurfs are back, this time voiced by Demi Lovato, Joe Manganiello, Jack McBrayer, Ariel Winter, and others. When I had the opportunity to sit down with these four members of the cast at the Los Angeles press junket for the film, I wanted to do something a little different.

Instead of asking the voice actors about their Smurfs: The Lost Village characters (out April 7th) Smurfette, Hefty, Clumsy, and Smurflily, I thought it would be fun to play a game. Because Smurfs is known as a classic TV show, I tested the actors on other famous TV shows — specifically, their theme songs. I gave the actors a snippet of the beginning of a famous lyric, and they attempted to finish the song. While some of the actors knew their theme songs like the back of their hand (Jack McBrayer, I'm looking at you), others... had a tougher time.

I don't know about you, but I'm ready to revisit some classic TV shows. Blanche, Dorthy, Sophia, and Rose — I'm coming for you.
