Lion star Dev Patel brought a very special woman in his life to the 2017 Academy Awards on Sunday night. Dev Patel's 2017 Oscars date is his mom and it's so sweet. When Patel was being interviewed on red carpet by E!, Seacrest asked Patel to call over his mother, Anita, who was in the crowd. She walked over with a big smile and stood beside her son very proudly, as he spoke about his role in the Oscar-nominated film. Patel is nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Lion.

Patel bringing is mom as his date is so sweet on its own, but considering the subject matter of Lion, seeing the two together on the red carpet will make you feel so many other feels. Lion follows Saroo (Patel), a young man who gets separated from his family in India, gets adopted by an Australian family, and sets out to track down his biological family. So in real life, Patel bringing his own mother as his date on his big night shows he's embracing his own family. According to an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Patel said that he took the role as a salute to his own mom.

"The greatest influence in my life has been my own mother, so when I read this, I knew I was gonna do this film for her," Patel told the publication. "At its core, it's about love, and mothers and sons." On the red carpet on Sunday, Seacrest asked Patel a question from social media: How does he feel about watching himself in his own films? Patel said that while he isn't generally fan of watching himself, he sneaked into the last scene of Lion during Q&A screenings. "That moment there was no real extras," Patel said. "There's some real truth to it...This [movie] in particular I am overwhelmed by."

No matter what, Patel will have his mom by his side during the Academy Awards and it's so touching.
