It was a nail-biter for one of The Voice's brightest talents, but Vanessa Ferguson won the Instant Save on Tuesday night's episode. This Instant Save victory nudged Ferguson into the Top 7 and confirmed coach Alicia Keys' feeling that this young woman's talents were too good to be chopped at this stage in the competition.

Ferguson's choice to sing Stevie Wonder's soulful and happy hit "For Once In My Life" may have been an incredibly smart choice for the singer. The other singers on the chopping block, Mark Isaiah and Lilli Passero, chose songs that were a bit moodier and down-tempo. Isaiah sang Justin Bieber's "Sorry" while Passero opted to sing Etta James' wistful "Stormy Weather." Both songs were decent showcases for the respective singers' voices, but it was definitely to their detriment in the Instant Save round when put up against Ferguson's vivacious Wonder cover.

"For Once In My Life" showed off everything that we love about Ferguson. She was using that incredible range, she was pouring in her heart and soul, and she was even taking the time to real show how she can connect with the audience. It was a slam dunk performance. Frankly, it's stunning that the same young woman who sang an epic rendition of Lauryn Hill's "Doo Wop (That Thing)" had to try and save her skin in the Instant Save.

Ferguson did the damn thing, though, and in the end it paid off. Now, she heads into the Top 7. As the competition narrows down to the best of the best on The Voice, it's only going to get tougher, more intense. Luckily, we're seeing a new passion in Ferguson that could easily help push her into the semi-finals.

This new vibe looks good on you, Ferguson. I hope we get to see more of it and more of your talent in the final weeks of The Voice.
