Dany Probably Doesn't Know About The Dragonglass On 'GoT'

Winter is here and there's already a ton of drama brewing after the Game of Thrones Season 7 premiere last week. Even though Samwell Tarly's scenes in Oldtown made me want to puke, fans also learned some valuable information from his airtime. There's an entire mountain of dragonglass in Dragonstone that no one seems to know about. That's right, the main weapon that can kill the White Walkers and Daenerys is sitting on a gold mine of it. It's pretty safe to assume that Daenerys doesn't know about the dragonglass, because at this point I'm unsure if she even knows White Walkers really exist.

Just to recap, in case you have already forgotten some small details from last week’s episode, Jon sent Sam to Oldtown to learn more about White Walkers and how to win the war against them. Unfortunately for Sam, he isn’t a Maester yet, so he doesn't have access to any of the books that explain what he needs. He steals a key when everyone is asleep and grabs a book that basically explains how there’s a ton of Dragonglass in Dragonstone (the place that Dany lands at in the end of the episode). He immediately sends word to Jon about his find, which leads us all to believe that Jon Snow will be heading toward Dany before the season is over.

Also, it’s worth noting that Stannis did tell Sam about Dragonglass being in Dragonstone, but I guess he wasn't really paying attention or didn’t realize how much of it was actually there.

So does Dany know she’s residing next to a giant supply of the weapon that can end the White Walker war? I’m going to guess probably not. If you recall, Dany was born in Dragonstone. It belonged to House Targaryen before the war that dethroned her family. Unfortunately when the Mad King and his army were killed by the Baratheons, Lannisters, and Starks — Dany and her brother Viserys (that blond jerk who died in Season 1) were sent across the Narrow Sea. This is the first time she’s been back since she was younger, so why would she know about the dragonglass?

The bigger question might be, why would she even know about the White Walkers? If you recall from the recent episode, even the Maesters in the Citadel don’t fully believe they exist. Professor Slughorn aka Archmaester Marwyn tells Sam that every winter the same story is told about the army of the dead and that the long night is coming, even though it’s never come and many winters have passed. It’s hard to believe that Daenerys knows anything about what’s happening in the North right now. We really need Jon Snow to stroll over there and tell her what’s up.

I truly hope Dany and Jon team up and work together, but it is possible that there could be a battle between the two. Hopefully Bran can get over to Winterfell fast enough to let Jon know he and Dany are family. Either way, this is the meeting we’ve been waiting for — dragonglass aside.
