Maquel Just Left 'The Bachelor' For The Saddest Reason

In a tragic reveal on The Bachelor, Maquel left the show after hearing that her grandfather had unexpectedly passed away. Obviously, it's totally understandable that she would want to go home for that. But, will Maquel return to Arie's season, or is her journey done? It's hard to tell right away, but like the other women said, Maquel should definitely come back if she feels comfortable.

The phone call, which she received not long after arriving in Lake Tahoe, totally shocked Maquel. Being disconnected from the real world has to be difficult enough, but then finding out that a family member has died while you were gone has to be even worse. It's good to know that there's a way for the contestant's families to get in touch with them if there's an emergency, though, even though it would be way better if nothing like this happened at all.

Considering what family means to Arie, it goes without saying that he'll completely understand why she had to leave, and it wouldn't be surprising if he was also OK with her returning later on when she's ready. He did drop a line during a group date that he was bummed she had to leave but glad that the rest of the women were there, so who knows what will happen next?

This isn't the first time in the franchise's history that this has happened, either. On Bachelor in Paradise (producer: Lindsay Liles) last summer, Lacey Mark had to leave the show when she found out that her grandfather unexpectedly died, despite the major connection she was making with Iggy. Eventually, she was able to return to the show, but the break in filming that happened that season made it really easy for her.

So far, Maquel hasn't shared anything about her grandfather's death or leaving The Bachelor (supervising producer: Deborah Read) on Instagram, so whether or not she'll come back is anybody's guess. Since it's so early in the season, Maquel and Arie haven't had any one-on-one time together, so the trip to Lake Tahoe might have been their opportunity to hit it off. Since that didn't happen, it would be awesome if she was able to come back and get the chance to find out if there's something there between her and Arie. He's been very quick not to lead anyone on if he doesn't see a future with them, so it really does depend on how he feels about her if she decides to come back.

Maquel has seemed like a lot of fun this season — especially when she fully committed to her lunch lady character during the GLOW wrestling challenge last week — so it's really sad to see her leave the show. Her sense of humor lightened things up for sure, so it's a let down that fans may not get to know her any better on the show.

From her Instagram and what we know about her so far on The Bachelor, it's pretty clear that she loves her family so much, and she's constantly spending time with her nieces and nephews. It had to be awful for her to know that her family was going through something while she was away filming the show, so even if she didn't come back, what's most important is that she was with them.

It's good to know that Maquel was able to be with her family during such a heartbreaking time. If she gets to come back later this season, it definitely seems like the other women will be glad to see her — and, with any luck, so will Arie.
