Although she first burst onto the scene with Superbad back in 2007, Emma Stone made her first SAG Awards red carpet appearance in 2012, when she and the cast of The Help were all nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture — an award which they happened to win, by the way (Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer also picked up individual trophies for their work on the film).

Much like her well-dressed character in La La Land, Stone went for something classic that year — her dress at her first Screen Actors Guild Awards was very midcentury retro, though it was definitely updated with modern touches. She went for a gorgeous a black strapless Alexander McQueen dress, with intricate lace detailing on the structured bodice, as well as a full (very full!) tea-length skirt — the silhouette itself was quite '50s, but the design elements were very of the moment.

She paired the look with fittingly retro platform peep-toe pumps, gold statement earrings and equally statement-making rings, as well as a consummately badass filigreed brass knuckled clutch to really round out the look, and take it into the new millennium. It was quite the win for Stone, who's established herself as a fashion darling over the course of her years in the spotlight.

Seriously, you need a closer look at those rings:

And THAT CLUTCH (it has a bejeweled skull and unicorns; it honestly doesn't get much better than that).

As for her hair, she kept up with the retro theme, with a simple low bun, and a stylish sideswept swoop of bangs. Her makeup also had a classic feel to it, with simple black eyeliner, major lashes, and a brighty rosy pink shade of lipstick with matching blush.

All in all, Stone's first SAG Awards red carpet was definitely a triumph — but we all know we can expect even better style in 2017, especially since she's one of the favorites for the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role trophy.

After all, if her star-studded Gucci ensemble from the Golden Globes is any indication, we can definitely count on her to bring the red carpet drama!
