This Exclusive 'The Last Word' Clip Is Intense
Anyone who’s ever felt like they were being pestered too much by someone who loves or cares about them will feel great amounts of catharsis while watching this clip from The Last Word. In the video, the familial dynamic between Shirley MacLaine and Amanda Seyfried is so relatable. It’s clear these two have a close relationship — and one that is full of nagging love.
The Last World follows Harriet Lauler, a control freak who was once a successful businesswoman. Lauler hires a young writer, Anne Sherman, to write the story of her life. When the results aren’t quite what Harriet expected, she drags Anne along on a mission to change how she is remembered. Over the course of their adventures, the women develop a close, but strained bond.
In the clip, Harriet is giving Anne a hard time about a “date” she “orchestrated” for the young writer. She claims that “the cave” isn’t an acceptable meeting and that a “proper date really does include a very, very nice dinner.” Anne retorts that her employer can’t “control” her. She also admits that it isn’t a date because they “are going as friends.” Harriet isn’t convinced. In fact, she claims the behavior, “shows me what kind of child you are.” Anne’s response is hilarious, she dryly states, “Anne Sherman died from lethal injection last night for the murder of Harriet Lauler. Her last words were, ’it was worth it.’”
This back-and-forth feels so personal and real. Though these women might not have known each other long, they have definitely become close. For more snippy repartee, check out the film in theaters — it premieres March 3.
