'Hide A Book Day' Is The Literary Holiday You Need To Add To Your Calendar RN

Are you ready to become a book fairy? Hide A Book Day is right around the corner, thanks to a partnership between Goodreads and The Book Fairies, so be ready to play hide-and-seek with your favorite novels, poetry, and nonfiction. The fun starts on Sep. 18, and I've got all you need to know to get started.

You might have heard the term "Book Fairy" bandied about to describe Emma Watson. The Harry Potter actress and book-club founder has been spotted hiding books in London, New York City, and Paris, inspiring others to do the same.

But The Book Fairies are so much more than Watson, even if she is one of them. They're an official organization dedicated to bringing great works of literature to the people who are fated to find them. Since March 2017, The Book Fairies have spread out to include "5000 people sharing books in 100 countries," according to their About page. To become an official Book Fairy, all you have to do is acquire some Book Fairy stickers from their store, and affix them to the books you want to leave behind for others to find. The stickers cost £1.80 — about $2.35 U.S. — for a pack of nine, which means they are super-affordable.

Don't place your orders just yet, though! The Book Fairies have special sticker packs for the Goodreads birthday bash. For the same £1.80, bibliophiles can get nine Book Fairies stickers and three Goodreads 10th anniversary stickers to use on Hide A Book Day and throughout the month of September.

If you participate in Hide A Book Day — and I hope you will — be sure to share pictures of your stashes on Twitter and Instagram, using the hashtags #goodreadsturns10, #hideabookday, and #ibelieveinbookfairies. Mark your calendars for Sep. 18, and happy hiding, Book Fairies!
