If you're still reeling from the news of Chris Pratt and Anna Faris' split, you're not alone. Fans on Twitter have been freaking out ever since the couple announced they're legally separating via a joint statement on social media. But once your initial sadness and shock subside, you may be wondering how Pratt and Faris met in the first place. And in all honesty, the story may make the heartache a little tougher to bear.

In what sounds like a standard Hollywood tale, they met on the set of a movie in 2007 while playing love interests. However, things were a little tricky. When Pratt and Faris were filming Take Me Home Tonight, there was a bit of a catch: Faris was still married to Ben Indra. They reportedly began divorce proceedings in April of that year, and as Pratt told Elle, nothing happened between him and Faris until after the breakup.

Still, it sounds like Pratt and Faris' connection was instant — even if just as friends initially. As the Guardians of the Galaxy actor said in his 2015 Elle interview,

"It was like magnets. Our personalities meshed, she was a goofball, she liked to have fun, it was impossible to offend her ... We were friends first but she left her husband at the end of the movie, and we started dating when we were back in Los Angeles. So we were friends, and I was there for her."

See? Doesn't that make the news of their split all the more heartbreaking?

But based on Pratt and Faris' joint statement, it sounds like their friendship isn't going anywhere. Especially since they wrote, "We still love each other and will always cherish our time together." The full announcement reads:

"We are sad to announce we are legally separating. We tried hard for a long time, and we're really disappointed. Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we want to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward. We still love each other and will always cherish our time together."

As a recap, Pratt and Faris were married for eight years after tying the knot in July 2009. A few years later, their son Jack was born in 2012.

While the news of their split is undeniably sad, there's at least comfort in knowing that the pair is putting family first and focusing on what's most important — raising their son together and surrounding him with love.
