Saturday, April 22 is the March for Science, a march dedicated to championing science and emphasizing its importance in all aspects of life. While the primary march is happening in Washington, D.C., there will be satellite marches across the country — and you can also change your Facebook profile picture for the March for Science. Whether it's because you can't take part in the activities in person or whether you just want another way to show your love of all things science, a little social media activism can help get the word out and add your voice to the crowd.
Happily, changing your profile picture is incredibly simple: The Nature Conservancy has created a March for Science frame you can add to your profile image directly from within Facebook. It’ll appear as a black bar with the Nature Conservancy logo and the words “I’m with science” at the bottom of your lovely mug. The official March for Science organization has also created a frame you can use which overlays your profile picture with a white atom containing the Earth as its nucleus. That frame also has “#MarchforScience” in the bottom right corner.
According to the official website, the March for Science is “the first step of a global movement to defend the vital role science plays in our health, safety, economies, and governments.” From regressive efforts regarding climate change policy to Trump’s continued denial of manmade climate change, the current administration’s actions have not prioritized the environment or science in general.
In the spirit of taking small steps to help enact big change, here’s how you can add a March for Science frame to your Facebook profile picture so your friends know where you stand.

Log On To Facebook
Listen, I don't want to assume what you do or do not know. But "Facebook" was in the headline of this article, so, like...?

Go To The Profile Picture Frames Tool
Here’s a link if you’ve never accessed it before. If you’re on mobile, you can also go to your profile and click on your profile picture. A drop down menu will appear, and you can click on “Add Frame” there.
You should arrive on a screen that looks like the one above. Except it'll have your profile picture and not mine, in which I am too posed and serious for my own good, but I think it's funny, and also can you just let me live?

Search For The “March for Science” Frame
Just type “March for Science” into the search bar, and the frames should pop up.
Also, “drag to reposition” is what it's called when you want to put someone in their place emotionally while still altering their perspective on an issue. (I mean, not really, but that's sure what it sounds like.)

Select Your Frame and Reposition Your Photo
I chose the Nature Conservancy frame and to crop my photo in the most jarring way possible. You don't have to crop it like this, but it will definitely help people take note that you've changed your profile picture.

Set How Long You Want The Frame To Be Up
On mobile, it’ll say “Make Temporary” and you can adjust how long you want the frame up there. You can set it for an hour, a day, a week, or even chose a custom date like, oh I don't know, Nov. 3, 2020.
When you've got your date picked, just hit "set."

Click “Set As Profile Picture”
On mobile, click “Use” in the top right corner. Then, your profile picture will be good to go in all it’s new frame glory, so you can let everyone know you stand with science on Saturday and every day.
