For the past 10 days, the East Coast has been experiencing brutally cold weather. Fountains have frozen over, ponds look like glass, and the temperature for several states have dropped several degrees below zero. The United States is like an icebox at the moment. And it looks like it's going to get even chillier. If you're able, you can donate clothes to people during the bomb cyclone.

For starters, you need to know what a "bomb cyclone" is. A bomb cyclone is more popular expression for the scientific term, "bombogenesis." Bombogenesis is a powerful weather system created by a steep drop in atmospheric pressure. In a bombogenesis, the pressure drops by at least 24 millibars within 24 hours. This ends up creating an intense and cold storm.

Weather forecasts indicate that a bombogenesis is on its way to hit the East Coast on Thursday. The potential winter storm headed toward the East Coast is exceptionally noteworthy since weather forecasts predict that the pressure could drop by a stunning 45 millibars. And this could be terrible for people on this side of the country. The National Weather Service noted, "This rapidly intensifying East Coast storm will produce strong, damaging winds — possibly resulting in downed trees, power outages, and coastal flooding."

For people who may not have their homes or warm clothes to wear, the bomb cyclone could be fatal. Here's how you can help.
