Creative Ways To Observe 420

by Kiersten Hickman

Although the 2016 election was mostly a series of unfortunate events, there was one change it brought the world that had some people cheering: the legalization of marijuana in some states. On election day, Massachusetts, Nevada, and California all approved recreational marijuana initiatives. So, that means that in 2017, you can actually make plans to responsibly and legally observe 420 in a place where it is totally allowed, depending on where you are at. To some, that is a major win.

What is 420, you may be wondering? You may have also heard April 20 be referred to as National Weed Day. Of course, if you are going to partake in any festivities, just make sure you are being safe and responsible. And, even if you don't smoke weed, there are still plenty of ways for you to get into the spirit of the "holiday." This, of course, means stocking up on all of your favorite foods (because, you know, the munchies), downloading your favorite tunes onto your phone, and queuing up a show or a book to enjoy once the “festivities” begin. Because, let’s be honest, the whole point of 420 is to just sit back and relax.

Here are a few things to prep yourself for when observing National Weed Day this year:

Eat Lots Of Amazing Food

Is there really any other way to observe 420? This day wouldn't be complete if it didn't involve large bags of chips, or endless chocolate milkshakes.

Listen To Music

Zone out to some of your favorite tunes as you munch on your favorite snacks of all time.

Watch An Iconic Stoner Show

Weeds, Broad City, That 70s Show, Freaks and Geeks... maybe even zone out to Planet Earth?

Hit Up The 24-Hour Joint In The Neighborhood

Not that kind of joint people, I’m talking the dingy little hole-in-the-wall restaurant where you can enjoy some late night grub after a walk in the park with a few of your buds. No, not that kind of bud. Gosh.

Pick Up A Stoner Read

If books are more your thing, there are tons of stoner reads you can pick up to spend your day reading after you've gotten your snack fill.

Do Some Yoga

Yes, weed yoga is totally a thing — so if you live someplace where marijuana is legal, check in your area to see if there are any classes near you!

Write In Your Journal

If you have some free time, spend a few moments writing down all of those deep thoughts you’re having. It could turn into something super creative later!

Have Deep Talks

If you’re more of an extrovert and prefer to talk out those deep thoughts you’re having, then grab a buddy and sit under a starry night sky.

Understand The History Of 420

There are a ton of 420 myths, but there’s only one origin story. Take this day as an opportunity to actually learn something.
