Never one to fall behind on the times, Instagram is implementing yet another update to make the user experience even more personal: A new style of post that's somewhat akin to galleries. For those wondering how to view multiple photos in one Instagram post and when they can expect to see the most recent change coming to their own feed, keep reading; this feature is sure to add a whole new layer to your 'gramming experience. (I mean, yes, that's true almost every time a new social media tool gets updated or created — but that also doesn't stop it from being true this time, either.)

Until recently, using Instagram meant either posting one single photo or video at a time, or posting a collage made up of teeny tiny photos you could barely see. Now, though, you can create a whole experience by combining up to 10 images or videos in a single post, giving you the ability to tell a story from beginning to end. Creating a gallery-like post of your own is easy: Tap the upload button like you always have, and select the new icon to make your gallery. Personalizing this kind of post is also simple; you can add a filter to everything at once, or rather to each picture or video individually. The option to tag friends applies to each separate photo, while captions, location tags, likes, and comments apply to the multi-image post as a whole.

The new feature — which will be rolling out around the world over the next few weeks for both iOS and Android — gives us a way to post several memories without clogging up our friends' feeds. Sure, Instagram Stories accomplishes something similar; those disappear after a day, though, and they don't post to your main feed. Instead, think of galleries like a Facebook album, but with an awesome Instagram touch.

So: How do you actually view each of the photos in these gorgeous, multi-image posts? Easy. When you're scrolling through your feed, you'll know you've spotted someone else's slideshow-type post when you see blue dots at the bottom of their post. This means you can swipe to view each image in the collection. If you're visiting someone's main page, multi-image posts are indicated by a square in the top right corner, like in @chynna_17's most recent post here:

After you've tapped on a gallery-type post, all you have to do is swipe to scroll through all the pictures. The dots running along the bottom of the image (seen to the right here) you're currently looking at indicate both the number of images in the slideshow and which image you're viewing.

Multi-photo Instagram posts open up endless opportunities for creativity. Use them to create a step-by-step tutorial of some sort, or to share special moments from a birthday party or holiday. Whether your Instagram use is personal or professional (or maybe a little bit of both), being able to construct something like a gallery is about to make things a whole lot cooler.
