This Glitter Mask Makes You Look Like A Pretty Space Alien

Sara Tan

As a beauty editor, I've pretty much seen it all. Fidget spinner bubble bath bars and unicorn-hued lipglosses? Been there. Probiotic-packed toners and kale-infused creams? Done that. If there's a trend that's blowing up on the interwebs, there's surely a beauty product on its way to match it. Oftentimes though, they can be more gimmicky than effective. That's exactly what you might assume when you first see GLAMGLOW's new #GLITTERMASK, but do not be fooled — this sparkly product isn't just for show (although, truthfully, I couldn't stop snapping photos and videos of myself when using it). If you love glitter and 'grammable content, you're definitely going to need this GLAMGLOW product, posthaste. But you're going to have to wait a bit — it doesn't come out until Dec. 1.

This is technically not a new GLAMGLOW mask. It's the same formula for the brand's cult-favorite GRAVITYMUD™, a firming treatment made with GLAMGLOW's patented TEAOXI® Complex of licorice and marshmallow leaf. Only now, it's received the holographic sparkle treatment — just in time for the holidays.

This isn't the first time GLAMGLOW has recreated the award-winning mask. They previously turned the mask blue for a collaboration with Sonic and then green and gold for Power Rangers. "We are always innovating and taking products to the next level, so we thought, 'What's more fun than glitter?'" GLAMGLOW founder Shannon Dellimore tells me over email when I ask her how the team came up with #GLITTERMASK.

The mask comes in a silver cannister with a handy small brush applicator so you can apply the product evenly across your face. Once you apply a thick layer of gel to your skin, you're advised to wait 20 to 30 minutes until it dries completely. In true GRAVITYMUD™ fashion, the mask feels cool and tingly on my face — that's the firming treatment doing it's thing. The mask aims to make your face feel firmer and look more defined after use.

If you're concerned about the glitter particles scratching your skin, getting stuck to your face, or clogging your pores — because glitter can literally be the worst — do not fret. According to GLAMGLOW, the #GLITTERMASK is made with the same high-quality cosmetic-grade glitter used in facial makeup. Just like GLAMGLOW's other GRAVITYMUD™ mask, this formula goes on like a gel, dries onto your skin, and peels off easily, leaving your face feeling refreshed and revitalized without a speckle of glitter left behind.

While you can totally see the glitter, you can't really feel it like you think you would. If you didn't have a mirror, you would almost forget that there were cute and tiny glittery stars plastered on your face (but I promise you, you won't want to stop looking at yourself when you're wearing this thing!). I'm not sure how they were able to figure out how to make glitter particles feel almost nonexistent on your skin (science?), but whatever they did worked.

Real talk though: Have you ever seen a prettier mask?! If you haven't downloaded the KiraKira app yet, that should definitely be a priority after snagging this glitter mask. It will bring this Instagrammable "lewk" to a whole other level.

Once you're ready to remove it, all you have to do is gently peel it off your skin. You want to make sure it's really dry before you do this, or else it could get a little messy.

If you've waited the proper amount of time, it should mostly come off in one piece.

Easy peasy! My face definitely felt a little tighter, but not in a dry way. It also looked brighter, too!

Once you're done, toss the mask remnants in the trash and continue on with the rest of your skin care routine. Just like GRAVITYMUD™, suggested use for this mask is one to two times a week.

It should be noted that GLAMGLOW has not indicated whether the product is biodegradable or not, but Bustle has reached out for comment. The formula, however, is paraben-, sulfate-, and phthalates-free.

The mask will be available to shop on GLAMGLOW's website beginning Dec. 1. Mark your calendars and make some room in your camera roll — there are plenty of star-studded selfies are in your future.
