In The Bustle Booth With Bridget Everett

When celebrities come into Bustle HQ in New York, whether it's for a photoshoot, videoshoot, or a Facebook Live, we want to give them the chance to leave their mark. Literally. So we hand them a pen, a piece of paper, a few questions, and ask them to get creative. The rest is up to them. This time, Patti Cake$ star Bridget Everett is leaving her mark in the Bustle Booth.

Bridget Everett isn't new to show business. The actor has enjoyed a career on the stage, starring in theater productions and successful cabaret shows, long before making the transition to movies and television. Now, she's enjoying the success of one of her biggest onscreen roles in Patti Cake$. The breakout indie hit, in theaters now, stars Danielle Macdonald as Patti, a young aspiring rapper growing up in New Jersey. Everett plays her mother, Barb, a woman hardened by years of poverty and haunted by her failed dreams of being a successful singer. The film earned rave reviews when it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, specifically for Everett's eye-catching performance.

Everett might be a new face to some of you. Others might recognize her as one of the supporting players from Inside Amy Schumer and her supporting role in Trainwreck. In addition to Patti Cake$, her 2017 lineup has included the comedies Fun Mom Dinner and Netflix's Little Evil. Despite all of her success, she still considers herself somewhat of a newcomer when it comes to onscreen work. "For as confident as I am onstage motorboating people and running around the room making love to my cabaret audience, acting is a different muscle I don't feel comfortable yet in, I don't feel comfortable in that skin. But I'm working on it," she said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. No wonder she told Bustle she hopes her friends would say she has "great tits."

During her visit at the Bustle Booth, the actor dished on how she wants to be remembered, her celebrity idols, and the one classic movie she hasn't seen — (hint: she's not a huge Quentin Tarantino fan). But probably the most revealing part of her visit was her plus one, her beloved Pomeranian Poppy, who posed with her for photos. As Everett stated in her Bustle Booth interview, Poppy is known for "her delicate features" and "tender snuggles and sweet kisses." She also has her own Instagram page — @poppy_louise — courtesy of her dotting mom. Everett even credits adopting Poppy for opening herself to love. "I realized that Poppy loves big and she loves a lot of people and she showed me you can do that. Instead of just loving Chardonnay and singing, you can love something else," the proud dog mom told W Magazine.

Of course, in addition to showing off her love for her dog, Everett also talked about some of her other loves, like her favorite "bad" movie (Sister Act II), her coffee order, and her love of women — or, as she put it, her belief that "women are THE SH*T." Everett is not shy about empowering women, herself included. When she first started out as a performer, auditions were hard to come by, so she made the decision to just go it alone. "I just started writing for myself and developing a personality onstage that was just sort of a beast of a woman," she said in an interview with Vulture.

Despite Everett's increased success on the screen, she's not abandoning the stage any time soon. The actor is currently working on her cabaret show, writing new songs with her band, the Tender Moments, including, she told Entertainment Weekly, one titled "P-ssy Grabs Back." Show business will never be the same.
