After much anticipation, Bachelor Nation finally has a new star. Franchise alum, Arie Luyendyk Jr. is the next Bachelor; and some fans may need a refresher course on this guy, because Arie was a runner-up way back in Emily Maynard's season of The Bachelorette. One of the things that made him stand out from the rest of the suitors was his successful speedway career. So, is Arie from The Bachelor still a race car driver?

As it turns out, the newest Bachelor is still currently racing, just in a differnt type of vehicle. And racing seems to be in his blood. Arie is the son of two-time Indy 500 race winner and Indy speed record holder, Arie Luyendyk. Arie Jr. himself has made a huge impression on the racing world, just like his father. According to his Twitter bio, Arie has competed in the Indy 500, medaled in the X-Games and is an Indy Lights winner (formerly called Indy Pro Series racing). Arie was even voted Indy Lights "Most Popular Driver" four years in a row between 2003 and 2006 while representing the Netherlands, according to his The Off-Road Championship (TORC) bio. The site also indicates that it was in 2013 that Arie made the switch to racing off-track trucks in TORC series racing. As of 2017, he is still racing in his fourth season for the TORC series and often posts photos of him racing on his social media accounts.

When asked about his readiness to take on the role of the next Bachelor, Arie told Good Morning America that he was used to making quick decisions on the track, so he could bring that skill set into this next experience as well. Honestly, that is probably one of the best tools that a Bachelor or Bachelorette could bring into the situation because making quick, smart decisions is what it is all about.
