This is so, so sad. According to TMZ, Jamie Lynn Spears' daughter, Maddie, was reportedly critically injured in an ATV accident on Sunday. The 8-year-old's vehicle reportedly flipped over, and Maddie was apparently underwater and unconscious for several minutes afterwards. Whether Spears' daughter is OK, and what her current condition is, is not yet known — Bustle has reached out to Spears' rep for comment, but has not yet heard back at this time. Update: A rep for Britney Spears told Entertainment Tonight, "The details the media are reporting surrounding the incident regarding Jamie Lynn's daughter Maddie are incorrect. Right now the Spears family asks that everyone respect their privacy during this time and appreciates all the prayers and support for their family." They did not clarify further.

Earlier: According to TMZ, Maddie was airlifted to a hospital following the accident. The site reports that Jamie Lynn wasn't with her daughter when Maddie was reportedly injured, although it's not said where she was instead or who the young girl was with during the incident.

Maddie's reported accident is absolutely heartbreaking, and my thoughts are with Jamie Lynn and the rest of their family during what must be a difficult time. As many will remember, Jamie Lynn gave birth to Maddie back in 2008, when the singer was just 17; the announcement of her pregnancy was a shock to fans of the then Zoey 101 star, and the show was cancelled soon after. In the years since, Jamie Lynn has pursued careers in both acting and singing, all while raising Maddie as a single mother (she was engaged to Maddie's father, Casey Aldridge, for a time, but the duo called off their relationship for good in 2010).

Today, Jamie Lynn is married to businessman Jamie Watson, and the duo seem to be the picture of happiness, living with Maddie. Jamie Lynn frequently posts pictures of her family together, and in a TLC special, Watson told the network that he cared deeply about the young girl. “I knew I wanted to marry [Jamie Lynn] when basically I had fallen in love with Maddie just as much as her,” he said. “And I couldn’t not be a part of her or Maddie’s life.”

Here's hoping that Maddie has a speedy recovery, and that the whole family is doing OK during this time.
