Game of Thrones Season 6 introduced the concept of time travel in a way that not only spelled doom for poor Hodor, but opened up a new dimension of supernatural theories about the end game in Westeros. Even Littlefinger's vague advice to Sansa to treat time like a flat circle made me wonder what mind-bending twist is coming next. For example, what if Jon Snow is the Night King on Game of Thrones? The King in the North might be after his own future.
I don't mean that the Night King was once a bastard who shared a name wth Jon Snow, or that Kit Harrington's character could become the next leader of the White Walkers after this Night King is defeated. What if icy villain was actually staring down his own reflection from the past? It would be poetic, to say the least. What if he's trying to change the past and Jon's future, therefore writing himself and this fate out of existence? That would be devastating, but pretty epic.
Bran could have been saying to Sansa that he is the Three-Eyed Raven even though we saw the Raven die in a cave because they are one and the same, Bran grows up to be that guy, and therefore witnessed his own death. That or he's just being a jerk by assuming that taking over someone's mystical position after they pass is too complicated for his older sister to understand. That's a whole other story, and sounds a whole lot like the old Harry Potter theory that Ron Weasley is a time-traveling Dumbledore. That said, what Bran is hinting at could apply to his older cousin Jon as well.
Now, we did allegedly see the man who became the Night King in Season 6, and if that's him, it certainly isn't Jon. In the books, Nan tells Bran that the King was a member of House Stark and could have been named Brandon too, though actor Vladimir Furdik looks much more like a member of House Lannister with his dirty blonde curls. The Night King could also be Rhaegar Targaryen, Jon's father, in a twist pulled right out of Star Wars.
All we know for certain is that Jon Snow and the Night King are connected, and that ol' NK seemed to recognize Bran as well. Something's up.
There's also got to be some kind of twist coming with this villain. It isn't like Game of Thrones to give us a pure evil common enemy, even if it would finally unite the houses and kingdoms of Westeros. The fact that whatever secret the Night King holds makes him even more terrifying, but I doubt that this spiky bro randomly decided to descend upon the Wall for no reason. Confronting his past self, and maybe even trying to change Jon's future could be the answer.
