Is The Iced Cinnamon Almondmilk Vegan?

by Kaitlyn Wylde

When you're a dairy-free coffee lover, you might sometimes feel left out when new specialty drinks come out because you know you can't have them. So if you've recently caught wind of the new Starbucks spring drinks, you've probably been anxiously wondering if the Iced Cinnamon Almondmilk Macchiato is vegan. Although the Almondmilk Starbucks uses is vegan, Starbucks cannot guarantee that the new macchiatos added to the menu are entirely vegan, as they contain sauces and flavorings that may contain dairy.

The drink is inspired by a Spanish and Latin American drink called Horacha. Traditionally, it would be made with ground rice and almonds, and cinnamon. While there are a lot of different variations and traditions, this new blend is definitely unique — it's a super creamy and filling drink, thanks to the addition of the Almondmilk. The Starbucks twist includes some sweet dolce syrup, and, of course, a shot of their signature roast espresso — because hello, what better way to wake up in the morning than with a super creamy, filling and slightly sweet coffee drink that tastes a little bit like dessert and has a serious *BAM* of energy?

The drink will officially make its way to the menu on Feb. 28 and hang around all spring while supplies last. A tall cup will cost you between $4.25-$4.75 depending on where you are in the country, as prices shift slightly from state to state. So you might want to think twice about that burnt bodega coffee that it's too easy to waste your money on. You'll definitely want to hold out for this fancy drink — it's perfect for the sunny days to come.

And if the news of this drink reminds you that you've had FOMO feelings towards Starbucks drinks in the past, you should know that all milk-based beverages are customizable and you can order them with milk alternatives. You can skip the whipped cream and swap out regular milk for soy, coconut or almond milk in any drink. And don't feel bad about making specific request — that's what the milk alternatives are there for. Starbucks doesn't want to leave out anyone who doesn't drink milk. And if you've ever tried a milk alternative, you know that they taste literally just as good as regular milk, if not sweeter and more delicious, so you're definitely not dumbing down your drink by switching it up.

In the meantime, keep your eyes peels for other Starbucks updates coming your way this spring!
