The San Bernardino County Fire Department has reported that on Monday morning, a shooting occurred at San Bernadino's North Park Elementary School, leaving multiple victims injured with gunshot wounds. The tragic shooting at North Park has caused many to think of the 2015 shooting massacre perpetrated at Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, which left 14 dead and 22 injured — and wonder if there is any connection between the two shootings.

UPDATE: An 8-year-old student was confirmed dead in the aftermath of the shooting at North Park Elementary School. Jonathan Martinez was pronounced dead after being airlifted to the hospital. According to San Bernardino County Police Department Chief Jarrod Burguan, two adults also died in what is believed to be a murder suicide. North Park Elementary School teacher Karen Elaine Smith was reportedly shot and killed by her husband, who then killed himself. Another student is in the hospital in stable condition.

EARLIER: While all the details of the shooting are not yet known, San Bernardino County Police Department Chief Jarrod Burguan took to Twitter on Monday, noting that the San Bernardino Police Department believed the shooting to be a murder-suicide, and that two students had been taken to the hospital. AP has reported that four were shot, and that one victim was a teacher. Students at nearby Cal State University San Bernardino were told to shelter in place until further notice, and the BBC has reported that the elementary school is currently on lockdown. None of the information currently known about Monday's shooting has suggested a connection to the 2015 shooting, in which Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik opened fire on Farook's office holiday party. News about Monday's shooting is still developing, with little known about the identity of the shooter.
