Those of us who have faithfully tuned into each episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians have seen our fair share of family drama throughout the reality show's 13-season run. But, according to reports, the Kardashian sisters will be touching on a more serious topic in their TV series, as Khloé, Kim, and Kourtney recently stopped by Planned Parenthood in order to raise awareness about women's health. Given recent events regarding healthcare, the statement the Kardashians are making is a powerful one, and I'm happy to see them stepping up to use their platform to shine a light on such an important topic.

TMZ reported that the Kardashian sisters visited Planned Parenthood's Los Angeles headquarters on Thursday. During their trip, they reportedly spoke with the organization's leaders about the future of women's healthcare and how the Trump administration will likely affect it. A few of the changes Donald Trump plans on making during his term reportedly include reinstating a Global Gag Rule that would make it harder for women to receive abortions internationally and, more notably, defunding Planned Parenthood.

While paparazzi snapped photos of the sisters walking into the headquarters holding hands, Khloé took to Instagram to share her own picture from the visit. Posing alongside her sisters and a handful of the Planned Parenthood staff, she wrote,

Visited @PPLosAngeles yesterday and learned so much. 2.5MM rely on PP for care -birth control, cancer-screenings, STD testing and so much more! #IStandWithPP.

The Kardashian sisters aren't exactly known for being the biggest political activists, but their display of solidarity means a lot, given that Khloé has just over 67 million followers on Instagram — who may not know all of the ways in which the services provided by Planned Parenthood are beneficial to women's (and men's) health. She's helping spread vital information.

On Saturday, Kim also took to Instagram to share what she learned from the PP visit. The reality star wrote,

My sisters and I visited Planned Parenthood recently and learned that the House of Representatives forced through a bill that strips health care coverage from millions of people and raises health care costs, including Planned Parenthood patients. 😢They are such an amazing place that provides so much to so many! #istandwithpp

She's referencing the American Health Care Act, which recently passed through the House. It still would need to pass the Senate and president's desk to become law, but it poses a number of concerns for women's healthcare, especially for those living in poverty or members of the LGBT community.

As TMZ reported, Kim, Khloé, and Kourtney's trip to Planned Parenthood was reportedly filmed for an upcoming episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, but it's unclear when the episode will actually air.

The famous family has been on television for 10 years now, and most of what fans have seen are their more outrageous moments — from vacations to weddings, as well as the sisters spending just as much time bickering as they do bonding. But their decision to air such a political moment on the show is powerful, because of how rarely they talk about political subjects.

Whether you love or hate the Kardashians (or love to hate them), it's hard not to applaud them for using their platform to discuss an issue that affects women around the world. It may be a controversial KUWTK episode, but I'm more than excited to watch it play out.

Editor's Note: This story has been updated from the original version to include Kim Kardashian's Instagram post about the visit.
