On Nov. 17, Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner issued a statement, defending her former colleague and Girls writer Murray Miller against recent rape allegations. On Saturday, Nov. 18, Lena Dunham has issued an apology via Twitter after Dunham and Jenni Konner faced criticism for their joint statement. The Girls creator expressed feeling remorse about the timing of their statement, saying, "I naively believed it was important to share my perspective on my friend's situation. I now understand that it was absolutely the wrong time to come forward with such a statement and I am so sorry.". But Twitter isn't buying any of it and the backlash against Dunham seemed to continue.

According to TheWrap, actor Aurora Perrineau filed a police report on Nov. 17, alleging that Miller had raped her in 2012, when she was 17 years old and Miller was 35. Miller's legal team has denied all allegations, stating to The Hollywood Reporter, "Mr. Miller categorically and vehemently denies Ms. Perrineau’s outrageous claims." The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department confirmed to THR that they are investigating the incident. (Bustle reached out to Miller's attorney, as well as reps for Perrineau, but did not receive an immediate response. Bustle also reached out to the sheriff's department for further comment.)

Dunham was widely criticized for publicly refuting Perrineau's allegations, and supporting Miller based off of their personal relationship. Needless to say, Dunham's apology is being met with many different reactions on Twitter.

She apologized for "wrong timing" within, but many feel that if she had taken some time to sit and mull things over, she wouldn't have had to apologize at all. And the tweets in response to Dunham, show that a lot of people are not only disappointed in her, but simply aren't interested in Dunham's contrition this time around.

If this were a track meet, Dunham would've been fined for a gazillion false starts right now.

Complete overkill.

No, but seriously.

Yeah, there's so much truth in this.

6

She's Finished

It sounds like this tweet wants to cancel Dunham altogether, at this point.

7

White Feminism Problems, Part 3

Yeah... that's not feminism. That's chauvinism.

8

It's all too much.

Sounds like this tweet hopes that Dunham speaks for yourself next time.

Could It Be?

To many fans, it sounds like it could be true.

It's so disheartening when you think about it.

Unpopular Opinion

Call the feminism police, because there is obviously an imposter in the midst.

While Dunham's apology is appreciated, it has not quite quelled the backlash regarding her previous statement about the allegations.
