On Thursday, July 20, shocking news broke that Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington had died at the age of 41. TMZ was the first to report the news and according to the publication, Bennington died of an apparent suicide. Now, Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda has confirmed Bennington's death, but did not share any information about the cause. Bustle reached out to the LAPD and to the Los Angeles Coroner's Office for comment, but has not yet received a response.

In his tweet Shinoda, who is a vocalist, guitarist, and keyboardist for the band, writes, "Shocked and heartbroken, but it's true. An official statement will come out as soon as we have one."

TMZ reports that Bennington's body was found on Thursday morning. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Los Angeles Coroner's Office said that they investigated a "possible suicide" at the singer's Palos Verdes residence. While TMZ reported that law enforcement sources told the publication that Bennington hung himself, THR reports that the coroner's office nor the fire department could confirm that his death was caused by hanging.

This year, Linkin Park released their seventh studio album, One More Light. The band was set to start their tour in support of the album on July 27 — one week after Bennington's death.

Bennington is survived by his six children and his wife, Talinda Bently.
