The One Drugstore Product I Use To Make My Skin Glow Like This

by Amanda Richards

As I've become more obsessive with my skin care routine, I've found myself eschewing things like foundation, concealer, and even blush — all in favor of luminizers and highlighters. The fact is, my skin looks better than it has in all 32 years of my life, and for me, the only way to show it off is to add products that make it as glowy as it can be. Ideally, my final result is something along the lines of "woman with moonbeams resting just below the surface of her epidermis."

For awhile, I experimented with all manner of products to achieve this effect, all with varying success. I've used all-over illuminators, powder highlighters, jelly highlighters, straight-up glitter, highlighting drops, and more. Recently, I came across a product that eliminates the need for all of those other products — a formula so versatile, easy to use, and effective that I literally can't believe that it's only $12. It might not be the absolute most affordable product in the entire drug store, but when I consider the added costs of having multiple highlighting and illuminating products in the mix, $12 seems like a steal — particularly because the L'Oreal Paris True Match Lumi Glotion Natural Glow Highlighter (despite being a mouthful) works so, so well. With just one product, I can achieve an all-over, flawless glow with incredibly little effort. Observe:

There is literally nothing else on my face but Lumi Glotion in the above "after" image, but it appears as if a makeup artist did some professional grade strobing on my nose, forehead, and cheekbones. That's a pretty far cry from what actually happened: I squeezed some Glotion in to my hand and slapped it all over my face in a very inelegant manner.

True Match Lumi Glotion comes in four shades: Fair, Light, Medium, and Deep, and Ulta's website describes the product as one that "instantly hydrates and luminizes skin for an all-over, fresh, natural glow." The brand recommends wearing it under foundation or alone, all over the face — but I've found that it also works as a highlighter. Below, I've built upon the above glowiness and more of the product to my cheekbones on one side of my face:

The formula is buildable, meaning you can use it all over your face and target areas with more product for truly significant glow. You can also take it down a notch from what I prefer (not everyone wants to look like a moonbeam, I totally get it) and wear it under foundation. I've experimented with that a bit just to see how it would work, and it really nails the "lit from within" look that many long for.

If you're looking for a product that helps you make a strong commitment to an all-over glow (and does so in an easily approachable way, for both your skill level and your bank account), then L’Oréal Paris True Match Lumi Glotion Natural Glow Highlighter could be the product that gives you the #glowup you've been searching for.
