After weeks of anticipation among his millions of fans, former One Direction band member Louis Tomlinson released his "Back To You" single for the world's ears to feast upon. The song generated lots of hype for a good reason too, considering it's the first track to be released from Tomlinson's debut solo album.

The song, produced by Digital Farm Animals and The Dream Life, features singer/songwriter Bebe Rexha, and comes on the heels of "Just Hold On," a December 2016 collaboration with EDM artist Steve Aoki. Though it wasn't clear for awhile when exactly Tomlinson would put out a solo track from his debut album, he certainly didn't leave fans totally in the dark. In preparation for the track's July 21 release, the singer posted a seven-minute-long teaser video for it.

If you would have asked Tomlinson a year and a half ago whether or not he'd ever venture off into a solo career, he would have confidently said no, according to his June 2017 interview with The Guardian. In fact, Tomlinson revealed to the publication that he viewed himself as the "forgettable" member of One Direction.

The others have always been … Like Niall, for example. He's the most lovely guy in the world. Happy-go-lucky Irish, no sense of arrogance. And he's fearless. There are times I've thought: ‘I'd have a bit of that.' Zayn, back in the day. He could relate to me on a nerves level. In the first year we were both the least confident. But Zayn has a fantastic voice and for him it was always about owning that. Liam always had a good stage presence, same as Harry, they've both got that ownership. Harry comes across very cool. Liam's all about getting the crowd going, doing a bit of dancing … And then there's me.

It's safe to say, however, that his fans are probably pretty happy he changed his mind about that whole solo career thing. In fact, he didn't just change his mind and produce a solo album. He also founded his own record label, Triple String. Now, his fans will have to wait for his album — in its entirety — to drop. From there, who knows what's next in this new chapter of Tomlinson's career.
