On Saturday, a white nationalist "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville, Virginia took a violent turn when a car rammed into counterprotesters, killing one 32-year-old woman and injuring more than a dozen others. Saturday's "Unite The Right" rally followed a Friday night clash at the University of Virginia between torch-wielding alt-right protesters and those fighting them. Many of the tributes being shared online honor not only the roughly two dozen Charlottesville victims, but victims of racism and discrimination at the hands of white nationalists everywhere. Virginia's governor, Terry McAuliffe, expressly told the alt-right groups staging a rally in his state: "Go home. You are not wanted in this great commonwealth. Shame on you."

Meanwhile, President Trump told reporters: "We are closely following the terrible events unfolding in Charlottesville, Virginia. We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides, on many sides," according to CNN." He added: "It has been going on for a long time in our country — not Donald Trump, not Barack Obama. It has been going on for a long, long time. It has no place in America."
