There’s been a lot of talk about avocado lately, from reports of rising “avocado hand” injuries to a recent promotion promising free avocado toast for a year with the purchase of a home. But it turns out millenials’ supposed avocado obsession may be just a lot of hype. In fact, a new poll, suggests that — gasp! — millennials might not even buy avocado toast all that much.

The Huffington Post and YouGov recently teamed up to survey 1000 Americans over the age of 18 on their feelings about avocado, and the results are quite surprising. According to Food and Wine, the poll found that participants from the ages 18 to 29 aren’t any more obsessed with avocado toast than those of other age groups.

Case in point? Only 28 percent of millennials said they “love" avocados — a full 10 percent less than people from the ages of 30 to 44. And it turns out no one is really indulging in avocado toasts at restaurants. Only six percent of millennials admit to ordering it off a menu, while only 15 percent of those over 30 have bought the dish. Both age groups are more willing to make the food at home rather than fork over their hard-earned money at brunch — no matter how Instagram-worthy it may be.

So does all this signify that the nation’s love affair with avocados is really over? Not quite, although it may be overblown. The survey ultimately concluded that the majority of responders both under and over 30 — 57 percent of millennials, 66 percent of those ages 30 to 44 —said they like avocado. And who could blame them? It is delicious!
