The Father Of Rory Gilmore's Baby Isn't This Man

Please, for the love of freshly brewed coffee and newly fallen snow, take a seat right now. Milo Ventimiglia claims he knows who fathered Rory's baby in the Gilmore Girls revival and it's going to fill you with emotions. For me, those emotions were of stinging annoyance and sadness. For you? They might be joy. It depends on which guy you believe is Rory's endgame. Either way, you will be totally shocked and will probably either have to take a personal day tomorrow or Facetime your bestie and cry a little bit. In a recent interview with Build, Ventimiglia confirmed who Rory's baby's father isn't: "No, it is not Jess’ baby. I feel like everybody’s like, ‘But what if he came out with a pompadour, leather jacket and a smart brain?!'"

It was only a few months ago Ventimiglia said the father of Rory's baby wasn't Jess, Logan, or the guy in the Wookie costume. Now, Ventimiglia's tune has changed mightily and he is instead giving definitive answers. You say this like it's a joke, sir. Like maybe this is hilarious, knowing that Jess and Rory may not be brought together for some divine purpose like being super parents in Stars Hollow. Yeah, I'm totally laughing, if by laughing you mean crying forever into my pillow.

While Ventimiglia did not allude to how he knows for sure that Jess is not the father of Rory's baby, it is actually very interesting in confirming some other ideas about the direction of the show, should there be more Gilmore Girls episodes. The first interesting thing is that Jess not being the father means that whatever imaginary, off-screen tryst we'd envisioned happening between Jess and Rory just didn't happen. So, give up on that hope right now.

The next interesting thing is the dawning realization that maybe Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino really has had this figure out all along: Rory is supposed to repeat Lorelai's life but avoid Lorelai's mistakes. This would mean that Rory is, most likely (so accept it now), pregnant with Logan's baby but she will not end up with Logan. Remember: Logan is already engaged to another woman. That said, Rory could simply let Logan in on what's happening, agree to co-parent, and yes, still definitely end up with Jess who is her one true soulmate (this is the hill I die on, folks. I believe this to be canon).

Ventimiglia may have tried to shock us but you know what? I think he ended up giving us the biggest silver lining of them all.
