There's Still Hope For 'GG' Rory & Jess

The Gilmore Girls revival gave fans the gifts of a Lorelai and Luke wedding, a Stars Hollow musical, and the legendary final four words. The one gift it did not give fans was a true Jess and Rory reunion. Sure, the former scene-stealing teen couple shared two sweet moments together, but by the time the credits rolled on "Fall," shippers were left still longing for the star-crossed pair to get together. This should help ease any lingering disappointment you feel — Milo Ventimiglia told People Jess will always love Rory, and excuse me, I seem to be hyperventilating. The actor said,

"I think that he's never going to not love her. Now that doesn't mean it's a romantic love — it just means, I think, the two of them found something deep, a connection so deep when they were so young that even though their lives went on different paths, different directions, they had that."

Fans know their connection is so strong that when Jess shows up in Stars Hollow in the revival, he and Rory immediately settle back into their easy banter. More than that, Jess' encouragement is what inspires Rory to write a book. Their two big scenes together were further proof of just how much they still mean to each other after all these years.

Ventimiglia has said he doesn't believe Jess could be the father of Rory's baby, and I'm totally OK with that. I would much rather know he believes his character will never stop loving Rory than to have Jess as a contender to be the baby's biological dad. Luke proved more than once that blood doesn't make a father, and I have long suspected the same would be true for his nephew.

The actor went on to tell People, "Jess absolutely loved Rory still — absolutely did. But it was also like the moment was passed. Or was it not? I don’t know."

I'm going to have to go with not. As Ventimiglia revealed in his interview, Amy Sherman-Palladino told him to look back lovingly at Rory, and it's hard to believe that glance meant nothing. After all, even the man who wears the leather jacket believes Jess could never stop loving Rory Gilmore. While her life has taken its share of crazy twists and turns, I suspect the same is true for Rory, at least deep down.

Who knows if Sherman-Palladino and Netflix will ever give the world more Gilmore Girls or not. Even if it never happens, Rory and Jess shippers should never lose hope for their favorite couple. Ventimiglia certainly hasn't.
