Meghan Markle's BFF Styled Mindy Kaling For The Oscars

With all the metallic and blush pink gowns at the Academy Awards, the red carpet was in need of a burst of color — and it finally came by way of Mindy Kaling's 2020 Oscars gown. The actress wore an eye-catching yellow dress with a one-shouldered neckline and draping along the skirt, and she complemented the look with a Chopard diamond necklace so valuable it came with its own security. "I cannot lose this necklace," Kaling told E! News. "The diamonds [...] there is a man here, a security guard to make sure that nothing happens to this."

All together, Kaling wore more than 130 carats of diamonds, according to a statement from Chopard. The necklace alone included 78.46 carats of marquise-cut diamonds and 46.33 carats of round-shaped diamonds set in 18k white gold. Casual.

Her security-worthy look was styled by none other than Jessica Mulroney, who also happens to be Meghan Markle's BFF. Mulroney shared a photo of Kaling's look on her Instagram page, writing, “My girl is ready to go!” And go she did, with The Office co star BJ Novak on her side and her jewelry security detail not far behind.

Kaling was on hand to present at award shows this season, but next year she may be up for some honors of her own. The actress/comedian is gearing up for a new comedy, Expecting, on NBC's Peacock streaming service. Variety reports it will follow the life of "fiercely independent but perpetually single music manager" who asks her gay best friend, Jonathan, to be her sperm donor.
