Wedding Fever Is Rampant On 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend'

by Allie Gemmill

Things have gotten a little more than crazy on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. As Rebecca and Josh hurtle towards their wedding day, which was moved up drastically thanks to a manic and panicky Rebecca, cups seem to be running over all over the place, spelling an excess of danger rather than delight for everyone involved. It seems there can be too much wedding when there's not enough hands on deck to help make it a reality. Rebecca learned this the hard way on Friday night's episode, the penultimate in a very emotionally chaotic Season 2.

After kissing Nathaniel in an elevator, freaking out, and moving the wedding up so that she only had two weeks to plan the perfect wedding, Ms. Bunch was a bit worse for the where when we checked in with her this week. She befriended a poor deliveryman, Patrick (guest star Seth Green), who shows up seemingly daily to give her wedding dresses to try on. In the process, he's become her agony aunt, listening to the woes of getting her parents to come to the wedding, trying on dresses, creating the perfect little touches to the wedding, and so much more. It's a lot for Patrick to process, let alone Rebecca.

So, just when things are reaching a fever pitch and Rebecca appears to be spinning out of control, Paula swoops in. Sweet, level-headed, patient Paula. She finds Rebecca maddeningly whipping up intricate cake pops and tries to bring the whacked-out bride to be back down to Earth. ‌

After looking Rebecca dead in the eyes, she pleads for Rebecca to postpone the wedding. This, of course, is unthinkable to the unsinkable Rebecca. Postponing is for losers. So instead, Paula suggests meeting her in the middle: ordering a sheet cake for the wedding. Cake can solve a lot of problems.

While Rebecca agrees to let Paula take the cake (no pun intended, but hey, it works), she returns to the cake pops, more frenzied than ever. Clearly, it's going to take a lot more to shake this woman awake to the reality that she is suppressing her issues that she desperately needs to deal with than simply ordering a sheet cake.

She's dead set on making the perfect DIY wedding because maybe, just maybe, it will prove she is doing the right thing (she is not). Rebecca has yet to face the fact that she's rushing this wedding, may not have as deep a connection to Josh as she has gravely fooled herself into believing, or is even ready to take on the monumental task of marriage because she still as so many personal issues to sort out.

This is a doozy folks. As we near the end of the second season, it's clear that Rebecca is dead-set on not addressing the very blatant and pressing issues in her life. She is clearly in crisis, floundering, and the small gestures of kindness displayed by Paula and even Nathaniel, who flew Rebecca's dad out from Alaska last minute, as merely fingers in the dyke.

Sooner or later, things are gonna blow up. Massively. And something tells me there's no time like a wedding to have everything go sky high.
