What To Expect From Rachel's First Night As 'Bachelorette'

ABC/Paul Hebert

After catching the first glimpse of the 31 Bachelorette contestants vying for Rachel Lindsay's heart, this season promises quite a few interesting surprises. Well, if these photos from Night One of Rachel's season are anything to go by. During Wednesday's Facebook Live reveal of the Bachelorette 13's hopeful candidates, lucky viewers were privy to the names and occupations of all of the guys taking up residence in this season's Bachelorette mansion. However, these new photos from the first episode — set to premiere on Monday, May 22 — share an inside peek of some of the more intriguing qualities that some of the guys may have failed to mention in their bios.

There's no doubt in the fact that the Bachelorette class of '17 has proven to be the most diverse group to ever appear on the dating series. This most recent cast features the largest number of non-white contestants in show's combined run over the last 15 years, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In addition to making franchise history, a few of the contestants have managed to also set themselves apart in other ways — including a penguin costume, an instant selfie moment, and a surprise serenade. Yep, and all of that happens on the first night. I seriously could not make this stuff up if I tried.

Lee's Serenade

ABC/Paul Hebert

I suppose we could've all guessed that, as a singer/songwriter, Lee would bestow his crooning abilities upon us at some point, but I don't think anyone expected it to happen so soon. Judging from this photo, it appears that Lee jumps right into things, as he makes his grand entrance into the competition by serenading Rachel.

With the season premiere still days away, it remains to be seen if his tactics will work on the 31-year-old attorney, but I've got to admit it's definitely a way to stand out from the crowd. And now that we all know that singing is Lee's occupation, we'll just have to wait and see just how good he really is at his jobs. I bet he's hoping that his sweet sounds will be music to Rachel's ears.

Milton's Selfie

ABC/Paul Hebert

And then there's Milton, the 31-year-old hotel recreation supervisor — and part-time photographer... maybe? He certainly didn't waste any time snapping the first on-screen selfie with Rachel. Let's just hope that this first photo won't become their last. From the looks of it, Rachel was totally cool with taking the snapshot, so the selfie-action may just end up working in Milton's favor. And if not, I suppose he'll always have the photo as a keepsake, right?

Matt's Penguin Suit

ABC/Paul Hebert

Enter Matthew, aka Matt. You guys, there are literally not very many words that could completely describe Matt's grand entrance into this season's Bachelorette pad. I'm not quite sure why, but for some reason he decided to show up dressed head-to-toe in a penguin costume to meet Rachel for the first time. Yep — that's right, folks — a penguin costume. I guess we'll have to wait to find out if there's some sort of underlying meaning here. Perhaps, he's trying to send the message that he's totally "chill" with being Rachel's new boo. *shrugs* Sorry, I'm really trying to help him out here. I just don't get it — at all.

Passing The Time

ABC/Paul Hebert

And here's what looks like the guys waiting around the mansion. As you can see, Lee doesn't seem to have put down his instrument just yet.

Things are really shaping up to be very interesting during this first night in the house. I have so many questions after seeing these photos, so I'm just counting down the days until Monday's premiere.
