Need a nonfiction book for this year's reading challenge? Save it, because the professor who predicted Trump's win is writing a book on impeachment. American University professor Allan Lichtman has been right about the results of every presidential election since 1984, and now he has another prediction: the 45th President of the United States will be impeached during his first term.
Since last autumn, Lichtman has been outspoken regarding his "gut" belief that Trump will face impeachment. He has frequently observed, as have others, that the 45th POTUS' "loose cannon" qualities don't jibe with the GOP establishment, whom he says would rather have Vice President Mike Pence — a hardline, but traditional, conservative — in the Oval Office. Once Trump loses his usefulness to the party, Lichtman and others argue, the Republican majority will impeach him to instate Pence.
Lichtman's book, The Case for Impeachment, takes a slightly different approach. Instead of focusing on how Trump's reactionary antics mesh with the GOP, the "Prediction Professor" will examine "questions surrounding his ties to Russia and potential conflicts of interest related to his businesses." A spokesperson for publisher HarperCollins said Tuesday that "it is not a question of if President Trump will be impeached, but a question of when."
