Ranking All The 'GOTG 2' Post-Credit Scenes

Walt Disney Studios

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for many things: bright colors, cocky heroes, and big budget action, but one of the things it's most known for is post-credits scenes. And MCU's newest hit more than lives up to the reputation. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has five post-credits scenes. Yes, five. That's four more than Iron Man and three more than Marvel's previous film, Doctor Strange. Some of these sequences give clues of what's to come, others are really just inside jokes. And when ranking the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 post-credits scenes, one can't help but notice that sometimes the best post-credits scenes are the ones that give the least amount of information.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 definitely breaks the record for the MCU movie with the most post-credits scenes. And, with this abundance of fun, it's safe to say not all of the scenes are equally relevant to the narrative of the MCU. A few of the scenes are, in typical GotG fashion, jokes more than anything else. Only one drops heavy hints as to what might happen in the next Guardians of the Galaxy movie (Vol. 3 has already been confirmed). Some fans were probably hoping that a post-credits scene might hint to the Guardians' involvement in Avengers: Infinity War, but unfortunately, none of the post-credits scenes feature any of the Avengers or make any allusions to the battle they'll fight alongside Earth's mightiest heroes. Still, they are all pretty special in their own right. Here are the five GotG 2 post-credits scenes ranked — beware of spoilers.

5. Teenage Groot

In the fourth post-credits scene, Star-Lord walks into a Teenage Groot's bedroom and tells him to clean up. Groot, clearly in his mid-to-late teens, ignores him and continues playing a video game. The scene is cute and funny, but there's no denying the fact that Teenage Groot is just not as cute as Baby Groot.

There's been some speculation that this post-credits scene means that Groot will be a teenager in Avengers: Infinity War, but I'm not so sure. Groot grows at a very fast rate, and Infinity War will take place years after GotG 2 (which takes place in 2014). Not to mention the fact that he could be defeated and reduced back to his Baby Groot form at any moment.

4. Stan Lee

The final post-credits scene wraps up Stan Lee's cameo appearance in the film, and shows him sitting on a planet as the Watchers walk away from him. The scene has been held up as confirmation of the popular fan theory that Lee himself is a Watcher in the MCU. However, the scene might just do the opposite, as it features Lee dressed up as an astronaut calling after the Watchers asking for a ride home. I'll leave it up to the fans to debate whether or not Lee really is a Watcher, but for now I'll rank this scene low on the list because it's confusing and doesn't add too much to the MCU.

3. Adam Warlock

The third post-credits scene gives the most significant tease about what's to come in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: the Sovereign creation of Adam. Adam, a still-cooking creation of Ayesha, is teased as capable of defeating the Guardians, and given his comic book counterpart, Adam Warlock, it's clear that Adam will be a huge threat to the Guardians in the future.

2. Kraglin

The first post-credits scene features Kraglin trying to figure out how to work Yondu's Yaka Arrow. It's really just a gag that ends with the arrow going straight into Drax's neck, but the scene is so sweet and fun that it's almost the most memorable out of the bunch.

1. Stakar's Guardians

The best GotG 2 post-credits scene is actually the second one, which shows Stakar Ogord, played by Sylvester Stallone, getting his old band of Ravagers back together after Yondu's funeral. The scene is full of fun cameos — Miley Cyrus (Mainframe), Michael Rosenbaum (Martinex), Vign Rhames (Charlie-27), and Michelle Yeoh (Aleta Ogord) all appear in badass Guardians-wardrobe. The characters were handpicked from Guardians' comics, and appear as a kind of older Guardians team. Honestly, it's the best post-credits scene if for no other reason than Yeoh's killer outfit.

Special shout out to Jeff Goldblum's cameo during the credits. I know it's not a post-credits scene, but his appearance was pretty great.
