Robin Roberts Says "Bye, Felicia" To Omarosa On Live TV & Twitter Is Living For It

by Jenny Hollander

Following Omarosa Manigault-Newman's abrupt resignation from the White House, Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts bade Omarosa farewell with "Bye, Felicia!" Thursday. The former Trump assistant and Apprentice star, who officially resigned but was reportedly unofficially given the boot, sat down with Michael Strahan for the morning show to discuss her departure. "I resigned — and I didn't do that in the residence, as [is] being reported," Manigault-Newman said.

She continued: "I have seen things that have made me uncomfortable, that have upset me, that have affected me deeply and emotionally, that has affected my community and my people. ... When I can tell my story, it is a profound story that I know the world will want to hear."

Manigault-Newman also told Stahan that she had handed in her resignation to Chief of Staff John Kelly in response to these experiences (Manigault-Newman is widely reported to have been fired and escorted from the premises, according to Politico).

Roberts was unimpressed by Manigault-Newman's interview with Strahan. After the interview finished, Roberts noted on air: "She said she has a story to tell, and I'm sure she'll be selling that story."

Following that comment, after a brief pause, Roberts turned straight to the camera and said, "Bye, Felicia."

Roberts is clearly no fan of Manigault-Newman, who alienated many in the White House during her nearly one-year tenure as public liaison. (Most famously, Manigault-Newman took her large wedding party and photographers on an extended and unapproved tour of the White House residences, although the Secret Service reportedly barred her from using or republishing any of the photos she took there.)

While renowned White House reporter April Ryan reported Wednesday that Manigault-Newman had been escorted from the president following "drama" between herself and the rest of Trump's White House, Manigault-Newman disagrees.

"John Kelly and I had a very straightforward discussion about concerns that I had, issues that I raised and, as a result, I resigned," Manigault-Newman told Stahan.

"There were a lot of things that I observed during the last year that I was very unhappy with," she added. "But when I have my story to tell, as the only African-American woman in this White House, as a senior staff and assistant to the president... I have seen things."

Roberts, meanwhile, appeared to believe that Manigault-Newman — a "reality TV villain" who starred in The Apprentice and spinoffs with now-President Trump — had less noble aspirations. "I'm sure she'll be selling that story" is hardly a subtle dig.

Roberts, who is known for her directness and warmth toward guests of ABC News' prolific morning show, looked frankly annoyed when she spoke about Manigault-Newman.

With her parting "Bye, Felicia," Roberts made no secret of her distaste for Manigault-Newman, who was frequently questioned about her credibility as a White House staff member.

Twitter, meanwhile, was firmly on Team Robin.
