Is it just me, or is Ryan Gosling quickly becoming the next Leo DiCaprio of Oscar losses? Granted, DiCaprio racked in three nominations for Best Actor (and one for Supporting Actor) before finally taking the gold in 2016 for The Revenant — the year his victory became the world's victory. But Gosling isn't too far behind with two Oscar noms thus far: one for La La Land in 2017 and another for Half Nelson in 2007. He hasn't endured as many defeats as his colleague, but the Best Picture mishap in 2017 pretty much ties the score, in my opinion. (Even though Gosling took it like a champ.) However, as details emerge about Gosling's new project First Man, it feels like a premonition that the dawn of a Gosling Oscar win is upon all.

First off, Gosling reunites with La La Land director Damien Chazelle for the film, keeping the dream team alive and well. Not to mention, Chazelle won the Oscar for Best Director this year. Maybe he can rub some of that victorious spirit off on his lead actor, eh? First Man, a biopic about Neil Armstrong, is bound to flourish with an A+, award-winning team beyond Chazelle, lending itself to an atmosphere in which Gosling will likely thrive.

According to Variety, Oscar-winning Spotlight writer Josh Singer will pen the script, and the film will be produced by Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen, who worked on the iconic Twilight Saga and The Fault in Our Stars. These guys know how to make classics. In addition to a team of award-winning pros, the release date for the upcoming flick could be a sign for Gosling's victory in itself.

According to Variety, First Man is the first title thus far to have a set release date on Oct. 12, 2018. This means it'll be released smack-dab in the middle of awards season, which typically runs from September through March. Many Oscar-winning films are released in this time. Coincidence? The stars may be aligned for Gosling with this one.

I'm looking forward to seeing the actor really bring his A-game to the screen in the first-person story based on the biography First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong. It will likely give an up-close, emotional account of Armstrong's trials, tribulations, and sacrifices as the first man to land on the moon. And if Gosling can score that gold from his portrayal, it'll truly be a well-deserved victory.
