Although they have yet to confirm their relationship, Selena Gomez and The Weeknd made things Instagram official on Saturday. The "Starboy" singer posted a photo on social media early in the morning, where Gomez is kissing him on the cheek. Now, for those of you questioning my use of the phrase "Insta official," yes, the two have made brief appearances on each other's social media before. However, this is the first time either of them posted a legitimate, recognizable photo showing what appears to be romantic affection toward one another. (Or at least, a photo that wasn't later deleted.)

Rumors first started circulating when photos emerged of Gomez and The Weeknd spending time together outside a restaurant in Santa Monica. Since then, they've been spotted by paparazzi on numerous occasions, and they've also posted the occasional hint to social media. Like when The Weeknd shared a photo of Gomez, or a woman who looked a lot like her, admiring "The Birth of Venus" (a famed Botticelli painting) to his Instagram story. Or when Gomez reportedly posted and quickly removed a video of The Weeknd on a gondola in Venice along with a heart-eyes emoji caption.

I don't know about you, but I'm finding it hard to keep up with all of the levels of "officialness" on social media these days. Remember the good ol' days when all it took was moving someone into the number one spot on your MySpace profile to confirm either a romance or that you were BFFs? Oh, the nostalgia.

Still, there's definitely no way to misread the message The Weeknd was trying to convey when he shared this (non-captioned) picture:

What an adorable photo. Now, although it might seem like Gomez and The Weeknd are planning to be more open about their relationship, much to the delight of fans, it's probably best not to get too excited just yet.

In her April cover story for Vogue, Gomez suggested that she doesn't plan to talk about her love life as openly as she's done in the past, which is definitely her prerogative. But whether they confirm that they're together in an official statement or not, it does look like Gomez and The Weeknd are happy, and that's really all that matters.
