In the aftermath of a life-changing situation, sometimes it helps to turn to close friends and family members for support. But shortly after it was revealed that the singer had recently undergone a kidney transplant, Selena Gomez was seen out and about with a new puppy, according to People, proving that not even a surgery can stop her from living her best life.

Marking the first public appearance she's made since revealing just one day earlier that she had a kidney transplant a few months ago, Selena was spotted out in New York City on Friday sporting a red hoodie and black sweatpants, all while holding an adorable Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy. According to Glamour, the 25-year-old "Fetish" singer and her boyfriend of almost a year, The Weeknd, were recently seen at a New York pet store playing with a pack of puppies. And, judging to the most recent photos of her, it looks like the couple just couldn't resist going home with one, since the puppy she was seen carrying looks a lot like the ones she was spending time with at the pet shop.

Before being spotted out with the pup, both artists posted photos and videos of them playing with their new furry friend to their Instagram stories a week ago.

On Thursday, Gomez posted to Instagram about about her reasoning for laying low and not spending a lot of time in the public eye lately, revealing that she recently received a kidney transplant due to complications from her lupus. She told fans that she spent the better part of the summer recovering. The singer shared an Instagram photo with her 127 million followers that showed herself and actress Francia Raisa, who she received a kidney from, holding hands while laying next to each other in hospital beds. The photo was accompanied by a lengthy caption that reads:

"So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you."

She also took a moment to thank Raisa in the caption, writing,

"And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis."

According to WebMD, Lupus is an autoimmune disease that has two forms: Discoid lupus erythematosus, which can have effects on the skin, and Systemic lupus erythematosus, which affects the body's vital organs in addition to also affecting the skin. In some cases, lupus can also cause kidney failure. Currently, there is no cure for the disease, but it can be treated with medication.

Selena has been open about her battle with lupus since first revealing that she had the disease to Billboard in 2015. She took a break from music that year and revealed to the magazine that, after being diagnosed, she underwent chemotherapy while staying out of the spotlight. Towards the end of her Instagram post on Thursday, she left her fans with a link to the Lupus Research Alliance website, and has since helped raise over $500,000 in donations for research, according to the group's president, Kenneth Farber.

It's certainly great to see Selena enjoying herself after her recovery, as there really isn't much that a brand new puppy can't cure. Hopefully now that she's back in the public eye fans can expect to hear new music from her, though seeing more pics of her puppy wouldn't be so bad either.
