St. Petersburg Memes & Tributes

Public transportation has been targeted again in Russia, this time in St. Petersburg on Monday, when an explosion occurred between two subway stations around 2:45 p.m. People are taking to Twitter with St. Petersburg memes and tributes to show their support for victims. According to reports from Russian state-run news stations, at least 10 were killed and an additional 50 injured in the explosions.

The blast occurred at the Sennaya Square and Technology Institute stations, in the city center, and there is thought to have been explosive material on the train. In a televised statement less than an hour after the explosions, Russian President Vladimir V. Putin, who was in St. Petersburg at the time for a meeting with the president of Belarus, Alexander G. Lukashenko, said he had spoken with the heads of the special services, including the F.S.B., as well as with law enforcement officials, who he said "will do everything to find out the causes of what had happened," according to The New York Times.

Andrei Przhezdomsky, a spokesman for the National Anti-Terrorism Committee told the Rossiya-24 TV: "So far, we say it was an unidentified explosive device as investigators and the Federal Security Service's bomb specialists are to establish the exact cause of this explosion."

Many have voiced their support for the victims of the St. Petersburg explosion on social media, sharing memes and tributes in solidarity.
