Starbucks Will Unleash More Novelty Drinks In The Near Future

by Michelle Regalado

Though Starbucks' now super infamous Unicorn Frappuccino was only available for a few days, it’s safe to say the picture-perfect drink was a big hit with customers. The colorful frapp sold tremendously well (as confirmed by this one tired barista) and was featured in hundreds of photos on Instagram (including on some celebrity accounts). Given its popularity, it's understandable that Starbucks is apparently already plotting to unleash even more novelty drinks in the coming months.

According to CNBC, Starbucks’ CEO Kevin Johnson confirmed that Starbucks will be adding more limited edition novelty drinks to their menu in the future. We will bring at least one new entirely new drink into Happy Hour this year that is going to be as good as Unicorn or better,” Johnson told CNBC. “Just stay tuned because we have a lot more coming.”

This, of course, isn't surprising: Former CEO Howard Schultz recently said that the magical-looking drink caused a significant bump in traffic at the chain, and will also likely lead to an increase in the company’s third-quarter earnings this year.

Of course, Johnson didn’t specify exactly what is coming, so I can only imagine what they have up their sleeves. What could possibly follow up the Unicorn Frappuccino? A mermaid-inspired beverage? A rainbow swirl? A rose gold frapp? Customers will have to stay tuned to find out.

In the meantime, baristas should buckle up and get ready, as it looks like the Unicorn Frappucino was just the beginning.
