The 3 Zodiac Signs That Are Least Compatible With Their Own Sign

One of the best, and probably most popular, ways to use astrology is to check to see how compatible you are with the person you're dating. Finding out that you have the same zodiac sign can be pretty awesome. If you're familiar with your own sign, you probably already have an idea of classic characteristics associated with that sign like what your sign is into, and what bothers your sign the most. You would think the same sign coming together would be a match made in the stars, right? Unfortunately, that's not always the case. There are in fact three particular zodiac signs that are least compatible with their own sign.

"It’s always interesting to see how two people born under the same sign deal with being in a relationship together," astrologer Judi Vitale tells Bustle. The good news is, many of the signs who do get together with their own sign typically behave like two peas in a pod. "This happens when the two people, as they express their zodiac signs, are easy-going and non-competitive," she says. Some great matches include Pisces and Pisces, Virgo and Virgo, and Capricorn and Capricorn.

Then there are those that really don't gel together as well. "The possiblity of 'too much of a good thing' can make two of the same sign being in a relationship together somewhat impossible," Vitale says. Of course, if you are dating someone whose sign is the same as yours, and you're one of the signs below, that doesn't mean your relationship is destined to fail — the stars are not complete predictors of a relationship's success, and of course, all relationships need work to last. But if you're looking to see the potential characteristics that may create challenges with your same-sign match, here are the zodiac signs that may have some difficulties in a relationship.

Aries (March 21 - April 19)

Aries are known for being the most competitive and fiery ones among the bunch. According to Vitale, two Aries trying to be in a relationship with each other may be like two alphas fighting for control.

"Aries needs to know that a conquest has been made," she says. "Unless one person is ready to be conquered, this combination can get overcharged." A double-dose of extreme impatience and temper tantrums can also be expected in this pairing. But, if you and your partner are both an Aries all hope is not lost. Discuss where you can find compromises in your relationship to help quell a potential power struggle.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22)

People born under Cancer make great partners because they're known for being patient, compassionate, and loving. While most Cancerians seem easy-going, Vitale says an underlying competitiveness over who's the better nurturer can create conflict. "Unless they can take turns playing the roles of 'nurturer' and 'nurturee,' this competitive love fest can quickly deteriorate into a tearful combination of hurt feelings and imagined slights," she says. This pairing also the tendency to get a tad too emotional and moody. If you and your fellow Cancer partner are having difficulties switching roles occasionally, talk openly about what both of you expect from your relationship, and find ways you are both comfortable fulfilling each other's needs.

Leo (July 23 - August 22)

It's no secret that Leos love the spotlight. When you have two similar people both fighting for attention, the results may not be the best. "One zodiac isn’t large enough for both of them," Vitale says. "It's hard to imagine how there could ever be enough patience and understanding to keep this combo on an even keel."

If you're an Aries, Cancer, or Leo who happens to be dating someone of your own sign, there's no need to panic. As Damon, a premier astrologer and spiritual advisor at Beacon Truth, tells Bustle, "It takes more than an individual’s Sun sign to determine the success of a relationship between two people of the same sign." Knowing your Moon and Rising signs, which require your location and time of birth to calculate, can possibly balance out the dynamic.

According to Damon, the signs who are most compatible with their own sign are Libra because "they debate issues objectively and then express how they feel," Capricorns because they're a "valuable team," and Aquarius because "they can have a good relationship based upon friendship, which is the real basis for any partnership."

Being astrologically compatible with your partner can possibly make life a little easier, but it shouldn't be that big of a deal. If you're willing to compromise and make the effort, your relationship can work regardless of whether your signs are compatible or not.
