Jason Momoa Is Khal Drogo (Again) In His New Movie

by Allie Gemmill

You may want to grab a glass of water, because it's about to get all kinds of hot and sexy up in here. The teaser trailer for Jason Momoa's latest movie, The Bad Batch, has finally dropped. I'm sure the trailer didn't intend to do this, but it would appear that the focus of the trailer is on Momoa's general shirtless-ness, painting skills, and sunglass-sporting capabilities. I can get behind all three of these things wholeheartedly but moreso when it's Momoa that we're talking about. It looks like he's returned to well-trod territory thanks to his days as Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones: desert climates, a brooding demeanor, and a whole lotta brutality.

Collider revealed the synopsis of The Bad Batch, which appears to be one hell of a violent, dystopian joy ride:

The Bad Batch follows Arlen as she is unceremoniously dumped in a Texas wasteland fenced off from civilized society. While trying to orient her unforgiving environment, she is captured by a savage band of cannibals and quickly realizes she’ll have to fight her way through her new reality. As Arlen adjusts to life in ‘the bad batch’ she discovers that being good or bad mostly depends on who you’re standing next to.

Arlen is played by Suki Waterhouse and who appears to be in some serious trouble in the trailer. Losing a limb is pretty terrible, but teaming up in the wastelands of former Texas with crime boss Keanu Reeves and muscle-bound hottie Momoa kinda softens the blow.

For Momoa's part, it looks like there's a good reason he's been exiled. When Little White Lies wrote up their thoughts when The Bad Batch premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2016, they described Momoa's character, Miami Man, as:

...[A] Cuban maneater who sports a giant tattoo displaying the words ‘Miami Man’ on his chest. He’s a silent, brooding artist who listens to Culture Club on his Walkman and sketches beautiful drawings.

It sounds like Momoa is treading a Khal Drogo-esque path here. In one moment a brute, in the other a tender fella who likes to paint. Drogo was cut from a similar cloth on Game of Thrones. As leader of the Dothraki, he has to be a strong, ferocious leader. But in private, especially with his boo Daenerys, it was easy for him to become a softie.

It seems like playing these brutish dudes with hearts of gold is quickly becoming Momoa's forte; viewers will likely see more of this character type when he morphs into Aquaman in Justice League. For now, it's no tough sell to get hyped for The Bad Batch when there's shirtless and sweaty Momoa in roughly one-third of the trailer. Bless up.
