The Best 2017 Resolutions For Each Zodiac Sign

Hannah Burton/Bustle

We’re constantly fascinated by what our zodiac sign says about our lives, whether it's which signs are most compatible or how each sign handles conflict in relationships. That's why Bustle has enlisted Mecca Woods, a New York City-based Astrologer of MyLifeCreated.com, to tell us all about how astrology can help us with our New Year's resolutions for 2017.

Now that we're almost done with 2016, it's only natural that our focus turns to all the goals and plans that we intend to complete in the new year. Looking ahead, one standout event for the year will come when Venus, the planet in charge of money, relationships, pleasure, and self-worth goes retrograde from March 4 to April 15.

While Venus doesn't retrograde nearly as often as Mercury, having Venus retro at the top of year will set the tone in terms of how to move forward when it comes to achieving a quality of life. With Venus first going retro in Aries (the Xena: Warrior Princess of the zodiac), followed by a backward spin through sensitive and dreamy Pisces, it seems that one of the keys to getting what we want this year will be dependent on our ability to fight for it (Aries) as well as our ability to keep faith and trust our intuition (Pisces).

Still, while this is a good point to start from, it's important to know that there will be much more happening cosmically in 2017 than Venus retrograde. As such, I've compiled New Year's resolutions for each sign to assist with the transformations, challenges, and progress ahead.

Read below to find out what your sign should be working on in the new year.

2016 may have had you caught in the crossfire when it came to what you wanted to do and what others felt you should do, though the end result is you got to see who was in your corner while shedding an old identity. Now that 2017 is upon you, your focus for this year is to get back to calling the shots on your terms.

2016 had you off on adventures unknown, gathering new experiences and a brand new worldview along the way. The coming year will be about taking those experiences and your unique perspective and using them to build you a stronger foundation. Your resolution for 2017? Staying your own course instead of following the herd.

You know that saying "jack of all trades, master of none"? Over the course of this past year, you've been steady moving away from this title — learning the importance of commitment and dedication. For 2017, expect this theme to continue, though you'll have more fun with it. Grow beyond what you know.

In astrology, Cancer is associated with the archetype of the mother, which is why Cancers (whether they have children or not) tend to nurture others in some capacity. While this isn't a bad thing, you're being asked to do more for yourself first when it comes to 2017. Your resolution? Fill your cup before you fill others.

If there was one thing 2016 did for you, it helped you cut ties with people who drained or hated on you more than they supported you. Not that this was easy, because you've been known to try to force people into liking you (losing yourself along the way). This year, your goal is to return to being unabashedly boss.

2016 brought you opportunities and experiences that kept your calendar and to-do list full. While it must have been exciting doing all of this work (and receiving attention for it), you're seeing how it can take a physical toll on you. Your resolution for 2017? Taking more time-outs before you burn out.

2016 was a bit of a whirlwind, wasn't it? Though here's the part where the dust starts to clear and you get to settle down into your new digs. Now that you have this new space (literally and figuratively), you'll have to be mindful about who and what you fill it with. Your resolution? Put down roots, but don't settle.

2016 may have taught you the value of paying your dues as well as what happens when you allow others to devalue what you do, but now that you're set to make make a professional coup d'état in 2017, your goal for the new year is to only give your energy to projects that will reap you benefits for now and later.

2016 probably saw you tethered close to home, becoming a more wiser, older, more responsible Sagittarius. As a result, there probably wasn't a lot of room for your usual excursions. In 2017, though, your mission is to re-open those travel floodgates and bring your study game to a whole new level.

You have the gift of producing jewels and riches under the toughest amounts of pressure, which is why your sense of personal strength and determination is bar none. Although some of the shakeups you experienced in 2016 may have shaken your faith, 2017 is your time to make a comeback.

There's a difference between being humble and playing yourself small. In 2017, though, your goal is to stay away from doing both. Over the last year, you've been on a purge of sorts, which should've taught you just how strong and gifted you really are. Get ready for the attention you deserve.

2016 brought you challenges in the form of discipline and commitment which may have put you in the peculiar place of over committing yourself to people and situations that were no longer worth the effort. Your 2017 resolution though is to drop the dead weight and keep it moving.

Happy New Year!
