Books & Books is a locally-owned, independent bookstore with three locations in South Florida: Miami, Coral Gables, and Bal Harbour. According to their website, they host a whopping 60 author events each month, so you know what that means: plenty of signed books.

Politics & Prose is exactly the kind of independent bookstore you’d expect to find in Washington D.C. — and former President Barack Obama has been known to visit this particular bookshop himself. They maintain a great community vibe despite being located in a big city, and their selection of books is awesome. They also have a wine and coffee bar.

Having been in the book-selling business for 40 years, Philly-based bookstore The Book Trader definitely knows their stuff. (Bonus: you’ll totally be able to imagine Jess Mariano hanging out here, working on his sequel to The Subsect.) They offer used fiction and nonfiction, plus a handful of new titles and an ever-expanding record selection.

As the most literary city in the United States, and one of the most bookish destinations in the world, NYC and it's seemingly endless list of iconic bookstores made this city's list of readerly locales a difficult one to whittle down. But honestly, if you only check out one literary destination in all of NYC, you've got to make it the (legendary) Strand Book Store, which features 18 miles of new, used, and rare books.
