Bustle's Editors On The Globes + Kim K

by Rachel Simon

Happy Monday! Hopefully, you're at least somewhat awake after staying up late to watch the Golden Globes (that Donald Glover win was perfection) and made it through the day in one piece. If the late night hit you hard, get ready, because the Globes are just the start of what's going to be a long awards season full of shows and events you won't want to miss.

The Globes are just one of the many things people are talking about today, Jan. 9, however. Read on for more on the star-studded ceremony and the other news and events that caught Bustle's editors' attention.

The Golden Globes + What To Know

Missed the Globes? No problem. Here's what to know: La La Land was the night's big winner, Natalie Portman was snubbed, Casey Affleck won regardless of those sexual harassment allegations, and despite what both Jenna Bush and Michael Keaton might think, "Hidden Fences" is not a real movie. Also, Barb is alive.

Quote Of The Night: "Take your broken heart, make it into art" — Meryl Streep, quoting her late friend Carrie Fisher, in a Lifetime Achievement speech that made everyone cry (and made Donald Trump mad).

Jared Kushner + The Trump Administration

In a move surprising to no one, Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, will reportedly have a substantial role in the Trump administration. According to reports, Kushner will be a senior advisor to his father-in-law, which is problematic for numerous reasons, including that it could test anti-nepotism laws.

Twitter Taking Action: Over the weekend, pharmaceutical executive and overall terrible person Martin Shkreli was suspended from Twitter after repeatedly harassing Teen Vogue journalist Lauren Duca in some seriously creepy ways. Good riddance.

Kim Kardashian + The Paris Robbery

Three months after the horrific event, 17 people have been arrested in connection with Kim Kardashian's Paris robbery. As you may recall, Kardashian was held at gunpoint back in October, and had more than $9 million worth of jewelry stolen. The arrests come just days after.

In a teaser clip for the upcoming Keeping Up With the Kardashians season, Kardashian spoke publicly about the robbery for the first time, sharing an emotional story of what it felt like to be under attack. Hopefully, justice will be served.

Speaking Up: In a post on her website, Kim K's sister, Kendall Jenner, opened up about her anxiety, which she said "was a huge hurdle for me to deal with this past year." It's great to see such a high-profile celeb speak honestly about mental health.

Breastfeeding + The Pope

In a wonderful and progressive move on Sunday, Pope Francis encouraged moms to breastfeed in the Sistine Chapel "without fear," comparing the act to how "the Virgin Mary nursed Jesus." Although it's not the first time the Pope has shown his support for public breastfeeding, it's still a pretty big deal, considering how much stigma there is around the act. Bravo, Pope Francis.

Pro Tip: Nervous about getting through Jan. 16, aka Blue Monday, the most depressing day of the year? Here are a few tips for surviving the day and not letting the hype around it get to your head.

L'Oreal + A Powerful New Ad

Awards shows are not always the best when it comes to diversity, but during the 2017 Golden Globes, one of the most inclusive moments of the night came in the form of a L'Oreal ad featuring a diverse group of models. Blake Lively, trans actor Hari Nef, plus-size model Sabina Karlsson and more star in the ad, and it's important to see such a popular brand making the effort to be more inclusive.
