The 'Deadpool 2' Teaser May Suggest Big Things

If you haven't planned your trip to see Logan yet, then make sure you do so pronto. As well as being a great film worthy of all the hype, there's also another reason you're going to want to race to the theater: There's a Deadpool 2 preview before Logan, and damn is it good. This is the very first Deadpool 2 teaser trailer to have been released for the upcoming sequel, and if first impressions are anything to go by, then fans have plenty to look forward to.

Slight spoilers ahead for the Deadpool clip. The teaser begins by showing Wade Wilson encountering a violent mugging in an alley. He then runs off to find a phone booth to get changed, just like Superman is known for doing — a feat our hero discovers to be more challenging than it looks. John Williams' iconic Superman theme even soundtracks the moment, and continues playing after a gunshot rings out and the man's calls for help end, while Deadpool is still trying to put the finishing touches on his costume.

I won't give away what happens next, but just know that it involves a pint of Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia ice cream and the Merc With A Mouth's distinctive quipping style.

Suffice to say, I'm giddy as anything over the teaser, folks. It's basically a Deadpool dream. And though it's only a short glimpse of the sort of superhero, comedic delights that Deadpool 2 will almost certainly deliver to fans (I trust you, Ryan Reynolds), it's enough to make me crazy.

Though subtle, there's actually some interesting things happening in this teaser that may indicate some interesting things for Deadpool 2. Let's investigate, shall we?

Deadpool Is Still Not A Generic Hero (Thank Goodness)

It's deeply comforting to see Deadpool still completely missing the mark on that whole being a genuine hero thing. Not only does the teaser gleefully reassure fans that their beloved, irreverent anti-hero is just the same in the sequel as he was in the first movie, but it also goes to great lengths to get even darker and funnier with it.

Considering what a success the first movie was, and what an effort it was to get Deadpool made in the first place, it'd be easy to imagine that Deadpool 2 may be able to take more risks than the first movie. And I welcome that.

It Will Have Lots Of Fun Parodying Superhero Sequels

Like a preview for any other movie sequel, this Deadpool 2 teaser goes to great efforts to re-establish the familiar (Deadpool's sardonic sense of humor, for instance), while also setting up the unfamiliar (Deadpool trying to save everyday people like a generic superhero). But it also does so with its tongue firmly in its cheek, suggesting that we might be seeing Deadpool 2 making fun of superhero sequels, in general.

It's something that Deadpool 2 producer Simon Kinberg mentioned to Slash Film in August 2016, as a possible commentary for the movie to make. "I think Deadpool 2 will comment on anything that's happening in movies today especially in superhero movies," he said. "The sort of glut or saturation of these movies and the proliferation of sequels is definitely something we'll play around with."

Vanessa Could Be Coming Back (& Copycat Could Be Happening)

At the end of the teaser, Hans Zimmer's "You're So Cool," the movie theme song of True Romance, starts playing. I could be stretching here (it wouldn't be the first time), but there could be a connection between the two movies. Alabama Whitman, after all, is a call girl (like Vanessa), who falls in love with an ordinary guy with an obsession for comic books who actually turns into a total badass (Clarence Worley, who was probably a fan of Deadpool, right?).

By the end of the movie, both of them have endured some heavy violence and fought in order to save the other. Considering that the working title of Deadpool 2 is Love Machine, I'm willing to believe that this could indicate the potential for Vanessa to still be Wade's love interest, but to also finally become Copycat (a mutant, as she is in the comics) and fight by his side.

The Superman Connection

Speaking of sequel parodies and Vanessa, could all those Superman references in the trailer be pointing toward Deadpool 2 taking some kind of hilarious inspiration from Superman 2? Because I would love to see Wade trying to give up his "powers" in order to be with Vanessa, just as Clark Kent tried to for Lois Lane in that movie. And failing just as — if not, more — miserably.

Logan (Or Hugh Jackman) Could Still Cameo, Right?

Yes, I know that Jackman has ruled out playing Wolverine again, and that even a basic Deadpool cameo feels off the cards at this point. But the positioning of this teaser trailer as a preview before Logan gives me hope that the character's final, final appearance with Jackman as the character, could be within a small role in Deadpool 2. Like, maybe everyone was lying about Wolverine not being in Deadpool 2, just to make the surprise even sweeter. Maybe. Pretty please? Just this once?

Whatever happens in Deadpool 2, I'm sure it's going to be just as brilliant and profane as the first movie. And until it finally arrives in theaters, I'm just gonna be casually sat over here, and singing "Shoop" to myself.
