The Title Of The ‘GoT’ Finale Focuses On 2 Key Characters

With only one more episode to go this season, Game of Thrones fans are on edge — especially since the Game of Thrones Season 7 finale trailer shows Jon Snow and Cersei Lannister together for the first time since she's taken the Iron Throne. Luckily, fans have something to talk about now that the title of the Game of Thrones Season 7 finale has been announced. This extra long episode will clock in at 79 minutes and 43 seconds, and it's called "The Dragon and the Wolf." And that name reveals plenty about what to expect this time around. Specifically, it spotlights two characters.

Yes, despite Daenerys Targaryen being M.I.A. in the teaser, the finale will likely give us more time with Dany and Jon Snow. Her trademark has been the dragon, considering that she is the mother of two of them (R.I.P. Viserion) and it's the insignia of House Targaryen. And since Jon Snow grew up a Stark, whose House sigil is the wolf, it's safe to say these two are the stars of this episode.

Jon is on his way to King's Landing with Dany's right-hand man Tyrion in tow to have a chat with Cersei about the White Walkers — which, as the queen learned last week, very much exist. Now they have to convince Cersei and get her onboard to help them fight the Night King. That's no easy task, since Cersei is most interested in keeping her place atop the Iron Throne, and she isn't the easiest person to talk to. Luckily, Jon and his crew were able to bring a wight back to the Wall, so he's got something to show for the rather crazy discussion he wants to have.

Clearly, House Targaryen and House Stark are taking on the White Walkers together. They've formed an alliance, and now it's them against everyone else who aren't willing to follow. This is no longer about the Iron Throne; it's about saving Westeros from being annihilated by the White Walkers. If you're a Dany and Jon Snow shipper, the title might also hint that it's really happening. But after an agreement to bend the knee and some hand-holding, the show is gearing up for a romance that can only end badly. How do we know this? Because every romance on Game of Thrones ends badly.

As Winter is Coming notes, this finale could also mean something new for another Stark and another Targaryen. Previously, GoT has named episodes after its houses — Season 1’s “The Wolf and the Lion," which focused on the Starks and the Lannisters, and Season 4’s “The Lion and the Rose,” which focus on the Lannisters and the Tyrells. This episode might not be solely about Jon Snow and Dany, but others from their Houses. Maybe Jon Snow's real parents, Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen?

It would be fitting to go back to those two, since Gilly unwittingly revealed some interesting information back in this season's fifth episode, "Eastwatch." We now know of the secret annulment and remarriage of Rhaegar Targaryen, which means that Jon Snow is not a bastard. In fact, he's the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. Will this be the episode where Jon finds this out too?

Samwell Tarly is on his way back to the North, and Bran, who knows of Jon's real parentage, is there. It'll be interesting to see how Dany feels about all this. There's even a chance this much-hyped love may end before it even begins.
