The 'Gilmore Girls' Fan Fest Is Coming Back & Now's Your Chance To Visit Stars Hollow

by Amy Roberts

Get settled with your coffee and let's bring this town meeting to order, because there's something important you need to know about Stars Hollow. The Gilmore Girls Fan Fest is returning in 2018, so you can indulge your love for the show while you wait for confirmation that the show might return anytime soon. In fact, tickets for the Gimore Girls fan festival went on sale on Dec. 15 for the event, which will take place from Oct. 19-21, 2018. And if previous years are anything to go by, then you definitely don't want to be missing out on buying some for yourself and whoever currently occupies the Lane Kim, Sookie St. James, and Paris Geller-shaped friendships in your life.

Because, by all accounts, it currently looks as though there are no plans to develop new episodes of Gilmore Girls — at least not in the neare future. The shows creators, Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, are currently working on Amazon's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. And in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter at the end of November, Sherman-Palladino revealed, "There's nothing being planned right now" for more Gilmore Girls episodes, but, "it's open if the muse strikes." Fair enough, but it also doesn't exactly leave fans with much hope about the future of the show.

That's exactly what makes seeing the Gilmore Girls Fan Fest continue year after year all the more exciting. Even if the show isn't continuing, it's clear that the Gilmore Girls fandom is going strong, regardless. Plus, we all need a way to soak in that Stars Hollow magic some other way that doesn't simply involve rewatching all the episodes at home for the hundredth time. Honestly, what better way to do that than to be surrounded by fellow fans in Kent, Connecticut (reportedly one of the areas that inspired Sherman-Palladino's vision for Gilmore Girls) with cast members in attendance.

Though details have yet to be announced for the 2018 event, it's feels pretty safe to bet that it's going to be just as phenomenal as it was in 2016, and 2017. In addition to hosting very special guests such as Liz Torres (Miss Patty,) Tanc Sade (Finn,) Keiko Agena (Lane Kim,) Todd Lowe (Zack,) and various other members of the cast and crew, the festival has also become renowned for it's Gilmore Girls inspired activities. They've done Friday night dinners, a knit-a-thon, coffee at the hardware store (so very Luke's Diner,) and even staged a partial reunion from Stars Hollow's premium rock band, Hep Alien. Run by Gilmore Girls fans, Jennie and Marcus Whitaker (as opposed to by anyone directly involved in the show in an official capacity,) this festival is clearly a labor of love. Made by fans, for fans.

With that in mind, whether or not we ever get new episodes of Gilmore Girls, at least exciting to know the show lives on in this new capacity. Particularly because fans of the show have always known that their love for the series goes deeper than just your average fandom obsessions. As a show about both families and communities, Gilmore Girls has always made fans feel as though they're an honorary Gilmore. Or, at the very least, an honorary Stars Hollow citizen — a fact that comforts us every time we choose to rewatch the show because it makes us feel part of it in some way. And the Gilmore Girls fan festival makes that sense of community lovingly literal.

Tickets for the 2017 festival, which took place in October, sold out within a matter of hours. So if you want to be part of it for 2018, then you might have to be prepared to snap up a ticker faster than a Gilmore can speak. Best start pounding that coffee now.
