It's not very often that Best Miniseries is the Golden Globes' most competitive category, but thanks to a year filled with incredible limited series, that's exactly what happened with the 2017 nominations. Of course, the race really came down to two miniseries and though ultimately, the Golden Globes snubbed The Night Of in favor of The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, even the most ardent ACS fans have to admit that they were each deserving.
Still, it was disappointing that The Night Of wasn't recognized after producing eight excellent episodes that exposed viewers to the flaws and biases present within the American justice system, with unforgettable performances from Riz Ahmed, John Turturro, and more. Between that and American Crime Story's bevy of incredible actors and look at still relevant social issues, the other nominees — The Dresser, The Night Manager, and American Crime — didn't stand much of a chance.
Plus, there's still hope for The Night Of to win a Golden Globe, as Ahmed and Turturro are both nominated for Best Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie. They are up against American Crime Story's Courtney B. Vance, so it's another tough category. If the HBO miniseries is snubbed again, let's just hope that it's renewed for a second season. Not only do viewers want more episodes of the breakout miniseries, but The Night Of deserves another chance at a Golden Globe.
