Known for his sassy remarks and aversion to fire, Sandor "The Hound" Clegane has transitioned from one of the most hated characters on Game of Thrones to someone who fans are finding themselves rooting for. His change in personality since Season 1 is profound and unprecedented, the only thing more unbelievable than his complete character overhaul is what the Hound looks like in real life.

Game of Thrones has some seriously good makeup artists and has a history of transforming actors so that they are almost unrecognizable — the Hound is a shining example. Rory McCann, a Scottish actor and musician, plays the Hound on HBO's Game of Thrones and the transition that he undergoes to become Sandor Clegane is remarkable.

McCann is already a striking 6'6" tall, so there's no need to alter his already Hound-like physique, but the makeup department is where the bulk of the work needs to be done. According to an interview with Access Hollywood, McCann said that when the show first started out it would take nearly three and a half hours everyday to apply all of his character's makeup. To put that in perspective, it means it took him a little more than one whole Titanic viewing to put on all of that makeup. He said that there was later a shortcut made that cut the time in half.

Get ready to not believe your eyes because here's what the Hound looks like without all of his makeup:

It almost feels wrong to see him in anything but dirty and neutral colored clothing with his trademark scraggly brown hair covering his face like an early 2000s alt rock band drummer.

There is much more to the Hound than just his burnt face and in an interview with Rolling Stone, McCann had this to say about his character:

"There's a lot to him. He's damaged goods. There's that burned face — he's feeling that every day. He'd really love to sort that brother out and rip his bloody head off. He was bullied as a child, and that's why he's looking out for Sansa, and why there's a slight fatherly thing going on with Arya as well."

As an added bonus, here's a commercial that McCann starred in for porridge before he hit it big on Game of Thrones. It's like a cereal commercial and a perfume ad had a child.

The Hound has developed a very loyal fan base in the past few seasons and he is quickly becoming many viewers' favorite character. Game of Thrones is known for killing off everyone that fans love, so cross your fingers that the Hound won't meet the same fate as past fan favorites.
